  • Tales from dedicated players II

A new game, a new, larger world (medium map, warm, wet). The Americans had barely pried their feet out of the swampy muck that seems to cover much of the world when barbarians began encroaching on their newly-settled lands. Thanks to some lucky attacks, the forces of barbarism have been held at bay, but at the cost of expansion. Meanwhile, there are rumors of other civilizations, determined to avenge themselves for imagined wrongs in past lifetimes...

The Carthaginian people is surprised to hear of swamp and barbarian savages. Compared to the harsh conditions of ancient times that the legends speak of, this world is nothing less than Eden.

We have encountered the Raging Hordes only once. They fell an easy prey for our mighty horsemen, but unfortunately the Barbarian King fell in battle with his men and could not be interrogated. Perhaps this was not the last time our paths crossed and maybe another opportunity to capture a King soon arises?

It is with great satisfaction that the Carthaginian people hear of the barbarian activity plaguing the Americans. For the legends sung by generations speak of an ability to multiply in numbers exceeding even that of a rabbit. Anything slowing down the Americans' expansion and quest for world domination until the Carthaginian Civilization is strong enough to protect its women and children, is an answer to our prayers.

Our small island supported only 2 huts. It's almost completelly filled and have only one crossable spot around whole lotta of it. Let's hope that land isn't already settled.

      Are we playing today?

            Update:

Our small island is filled to the birm and we have no more graveyard sites to bury fresh deaders.
We tried to threw them into ocean but that attracted sharks like flies,so our majestic leader approved expenses to build up a few pyramids to help the cause.

All I can say after today's "session" is that we've earned our "dedicated players" - status...

Somehow we managed to play a few turns between disconnections. As of 575 BC, the wonders are:

                SmartFart - Pyramids
                DaveV - Hanging Gardens
                Carolus Rex - Lighthouse

I've got the Colossus completed, but we can't get the game to play past that point . With no trade specials, I had to do something to boost my research rate. On this watery map, the Lighthouse may prove to be a very valuable wonder...

Just a note on the game.

When Dave was booted the AI played his turn and we got the standard popup message "The Americans have abandoned their bla, bla, bla Colossus".

When Dave returns and his turn comes we get the message "Washington completes the Colossus"! So the AI switched from a completed wonder to a unit or improvement (no message saying they switched to another wonder)...

I think this belongs in the TSIA-thread!

Sten, I never saw what the AI built, but my money is on a temple, too. There's probably some code somewhere that says, "a size three city should build a temple". Never mind that the city had HG and was celebrating WLTKD...

                          Ehm...

Are we going to continue this one? Or start a new one if this one is hut biased?
