While yes, all the civ 4 discussion belongs there, if ming agrees, maybe we can have one thread here for discussion by civ II mp players, for civ II mp players.

You are correct, most of us here have a different experience then most of those there. In fact, everytime I say anything there relating to MP, a lot of people jump up and down screaming, "we don't care about MP" Wussies. Heavan forbid if they had to play a real opponent.

Noticed it this morning. Some good stuff over there.

There is good discussion of MP, combat rules, trade/resources, etc.

well rah i leave it to you to disciss with ming, i think this group has the most to gain from a good civ4 MP so i reaaly wanted some input. I still trying to find the original civ3 wish list that had a fair bit of input from guys here on it. If i find it i will add to appropiate sections there the stuff we want, of someone else can find it let me know the link please...

Civ3 MP was done haphazardly and i would hate to see it happen again.

You don't want to see the lengthy document that was sent to them... that's probably what led to the screwed up game that we got. In particular was the cheat section I provided, which they even commented on... they closed every one down, and in the process, sucked ALL THE FUN OUT of the game. The less we tell them, probably the better.

I would love to see them go back to Civ II...

                Update the graphics

Remove the basic cheats like blank clicking, unsinkable ships, ship chaining

Go back to that combat system with fire power, but allow stacked combat

Add in resources but make them more plentiful

Add some new wonders and governments and civs

Make resourses and huts placement random and not in a pattern

Make it so if even one civ is passworded, you can't open the game up in scenario mode

No free civs given to the host in MP games, and the same number of settlers given to everybody no matter what level you are playing

Add smart commands like "patrol area"

Add some new units - civ unique units are ok, but there needs to be one for each civ in each age to make it fair for MP

                Upgrade Diplomacy options

And I'm sure there are other things I just can't remember at the moment. Civ II is a great game with some basic flaws... but it's still a better MP game than Civ III.

                  Agreed.

Being able to move units in stacks; get rid of the AI-attacking-the-same-highly-defended-coastal-city-with-umpteen-destroyers madness; iron out some of the other ambiguities and that's it... The Perfect Game!

Rasputin, look what happened the last time... All these organised lists have a scary sense of déja vu over them...

Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself...

                    Ming:
You forgot the ridiculous caravan payoffs, one of the main reasons all early units are hardly worth building couse they become obsolete with the next caravan.

True... trade needs to be revised. somewhere inbetween where it was in Civ II, and where it ended up in Civ III, which was just totally worthless

I'm not taking a lot of time off over the holidays, but I will be available to play more than usual.

And I to will be more cautious after the debacle of III

yeah... I too will be more cautious this time around. Last time, we were really hoping for Civ 2.5... and Civ III wasn't it

i think what happened to civ3 was that while ming certianly put a hufe effort in and a few tohers from this little section, not enough MP ideas were put in and civ3 became same as civ2 in that MP wasnt in the original game and was an added afterthought. MP needs to be in from start to make sur ethe whole game works with MP format. A lot of the cheats and such in civ2 MP were simply loopholes carried over from civ2 SP
