  • AI's in MP Games

    Inspired by another thread...

Our group usually plays without AI's in MP games. However, if somebody drop out or has to leave for the evening, in many cases, the rest will continue on.

What are the differences that you see in having AI's in the game.

For us, the big difference is city bribing... While we don't allow it, the AI doesn't follow that rule. The minute an AI takes over, I start padding my bank account more than I might normally do to make it more expensive for the AI... I also patrol more agressively around my cities near the AI to keep those units from strolling up and bribing my cities...

How do having AI's in the game effect your strategy?
    Keep on Civin'

I'll find that mountain on the border with civ's that I'm at war with. (which is usually everyone ) and put that vet defensive unit on along with a dip and watch the AI pummel itself against it.

And I will make a beeline towards their land with settlers since the AI usually stops expanding. (at least relative to Human Players)

And finally, besides some of the patrol techniques that MIng mentioned) I'll station some dips in reach to bribe border cities back. And disband multiple move units from possible target cities. So they can't bribe the city then use that unit to pick off the diplo. One doesn't need much mobile defense against the AI's "one unit at a time offense".

The most annoying thing that even though we play that you must decline all contacts attempts, sometimes your wussy senate decides otherwise.

Especially when your opponent moves those cats up next to your city, and the senate won't let you attack them. You have to revolt to save the city and may spend a few turns in anarchy.

That works against the AI, but not against most humans.

But I guess there's still a few trade whores out there.

agreed, but there are a few humans that would work on too.

I don't recall ever playing a MP game with an AI.

Once or twice over the years we added AIs when we were dueling to try to add some spice. Needless to say, we haven't done that in a long time.

We played the bribe the ai rule last weekend - hydey and trev played. There were 7 civs, 4 ai. I didn't see any bribing going on but hydey hammered the Aztecs destroying most of their cities.

The practice was allowed mainly to get the f*ckers out of the game more quickly and because they'd do it to us.

Later in the game when players have more cash I expect to see the ai civs "bought out".
