  • Mongol AI Disbands Its Capital City ...

... and I think this may be the first (or only second time) that I've ever seen an AI do this. How often does this happen? I mean, I've seen the AI bounce its capital around — generally when there's nothing else for it to build except the palace and/or units — but in this case, the AI moved its capital to Shiraz and then disbanded Karakorum (and, later, built another city, Mahdia, on Karakorum's former site).

I'm playing on the standard Earth map, with a bit of customization on my part (i.e., I've made Asia a bit more watery, in terms of rivers).

I don't think I've ever seen the AI disband any city. It usually requires at least a little rush to build a settler fast enough to disband the city.

It had to have disbanded the capital, because it was in the heartland of Mongolia, the game's "supreme" power at the time. IOW, there's no way another AI could have blasted the city into ruins ... unless it did a diplo assault, I suppose, and the Mongols finished off their own capital (it was walled).

I think it's a shrewd move. By disbanding its cities, the AI prevents you from capturing them (and acquiring cash and possibly techs). Moreover, it is depriving you of a base deep within the Mongol empire, along with the shields/arrows the city produces.

                STYOM:

Well, heck, yes that is a good strategy. Unfortunately, my armies weren't even at war with Mongolia (I've got the United Nations). Right now I've got a convoy of 64 offensive divisions (howitzers and armor) escorted by my navy heading for Central America and the Aztecs.

They haven't disbanded Tenochtitlan. Yet, anyways.

Maybe you should use your howitzers to.....ahem......encourage them a little. After all, we all know that all diplomatic resources should be exhausted first.

**evil laughter** Well, I am fulfilling Britain's expansionist tendencies ... (although I'll have to deal with my Senate for the timebeing) ... and the nice thing is, those "innocent" Aztecs have to wall their capital.
