  • Do other nations build SDI defences?

What would happen if you nuked someone with SDI defence?

Or, do other nations know if you build it in one place so don;t nuke that place.

    Thanks

    Welcome Catherine,

My games rarely get to this stage - I prefer to conquer the world with Crooks & 'Clads, but - I think I may be able to help a little.

The AI seems to know where SDI are located and does not nuke such cities - it will however waste many nukes on a city within the SDI radius of another - SDI protects a 3 square 'circle' around the city that builds it so another city can exist within that protective envelope and does not need an SDI itself -- similarly the devastation of a nuke can flow 'under' SDI so if you target just ouside the SDI radius you can damage within it.

I do not believe that another human player can discover a city has SDI other than by trying to nuke it or by diplomatic investigation.

    Hope this hleps, SG[1]

I'm not sure but don't you also get the info when you try to just send a rocket into a city?
for SAM alone you get a popup saying:" SAM double's defence"
and for SAM end SDI it says:"SAM and SDI quadruple defence"

Yes, the popup Shade mentions exists.

I'm with SG on early conquest. While I may get rocketry, the AI may not have it. If anybody tried to build the Manhattan Project, I would send a boatload of spies to put an end to it...

That said, in my early civ years, before I could end the game early, nukes got tossed like so many snowballs. The AI does build SDIs. If they have the money, and you have nukes, they will rushbuy them.

Also, an SDI will defend against any unit with attack=99. However, they do not defend against the Spy's suitcase nuke.

does this mean if you'd change the attackvalue for a nuke to let's say 90 they would still work??(hope hope...)

No - then you would just have a cruise missile with guaranteed success.

Attack=99 also triggers the nuke sound and explosion graphics, no matter what unit has it. You could make a plutonium chariot, for instance.
