  • I'm new here

    Hello everybody!

I'm new here, and simply amazed about this site :-)
IT's very cool and I started to download patches and specials, howover a problem rose. Most of the files could not be opened due to HTTP500 error. Is there any solution for this?
I also want to ask, that how can I modify my units gif file? ie I want to replace some of the icons with new ones that I downloaded.

    Thanks for help in advance

don't know, but the server may be busy with all the civ3 hoopla. try again later and/or ask MarkG or DanQ via PM or post in the apolyton/community forum.

use a graphics editing program. i use paint shop pro

Welcome to our fabulous(ly slow) site! Check out the Great Library in the CivII Strategy forum, there's much to learn!

If the units you downloaded are an entire set, you can simply replace them and the rules.txt in your main Civ directory. If they are individual units, you must edit units.gif, as ColdWizard suggests. Good luck!

        Thanks, but

I loaded the unit.gif file in MS Paint and pasted a new icon from an other unit.gif file, then I saved it to the civ2 directory, but when I start the game it doesn'T do anything, but an error window appears. However I rewroted the org unit gif, and the program started again. Did I something wrong or did I forget anything?

Geeze, someone can even be amazed by this lafka run by Markos and Dan.

But anyway, welcome aboard! Hopefully you won't feel lost around. If yes, just send a PM (=Private Message, for more details, check out the FAQ) to Rasbelin (that's me) or ask at the Apolyton/Community forum.

P.S. Quite many more experienced Apolytoners will call you "newbie" in the beginning, but just ignore that. No-one has the right to flame you from being new here. So just keep downloading and surfing the ACS Forums!

            Hi csatahajos !

Apolyton is a great and friendly site! There are many new posters at present because of Civ 3 ... stick around and become a vet ... or should that read elite?

You need a real image editor like Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop. I don't think MS Paint can handle gifs.

For gifs you also have to use the 87a noninterlaced nontransparent format.

                What is that?

Dear Gothmog, can you please explain to me what is this 87a noninterlaced nontransparent format, and where can I get it?
                Thanks

If the graphics program you use is capable of writing the 87a gif format it will be listed as an option. There is really nothing to get. A graphics program can either write this format or not write this format.
