  • Help! New PC cannot run Civ2!!!!

I've just got a new PC but I lost my civ2 installation cd years ago.

I took the hard drive off my old computer and hooked it up in my new pc (swapped the leads from the cd-r drive to the old hard drive) which let me access the hard drive so I copied the civ2 directory to my new PC. Only thing is when I try to run it it says "WinG Load Error 2"

Any hints? I'm running Windows Millennium Edition.

PS I even copied the civ.ini file from the old windows directory to the new one. I changed the cd and civ directory to match where it is on the new pc.

I thought you needed the CD in the drive in order to run Civ. So if that's the case, you need to find the original disk.

There is a little script I once saw from a Civ website which allows a user to use civ2 without the requirement for the CD to be in the disk drive. I have the script but I think it's limited to Win95 OS. In any case, it doesn't work on my computer (Win98 - svenska versionen).

Maybe you know enough about programming to upgrade it to a ME version. Let me know if you want it and I'll send it to you.

You don't need the CD in the drive with original Civ2 single-player. Only the MP version needs the CD, but there are cracks for that. However, in this case the problem is that you need to install WinG. You can find it on the Civ2 CD, but I have read that you can also download it somewhere on the net.

yeah, you definitely ned to install WinG in order to get the game running... maybe try a google search for the relevant software if you can't access your game CD.
