  • Anybody Remember This Problem

This was asked at CF and I'm fairly certain I've seen this here before...many moons ago....here it is:

With my game the cheat mode is turned on, but doesn't show it as a cheat game in the score. It really pisses me off that I can't get it to go away.

Anytime I save a gave, no matter what turn, how long I've played it, or anything, when I load it again, cheat mode is toggled. When I move the games around between computers (I played at work a bit ) the cheat mode was then turned off. I've even tried uninstalling my game, and reinstalling it, but it is always there.

Does anybody have a way to fix this? Maybe I'll go ask in the tech forum too.

Thats it.I'm surprised re-installing didn't work for him.

When you re-indtall not all files are deleted, go back into the folder and maually delete the files.

      Yes, Alex is right.

But I would suggest using the "uninstall" option over manually deleting the files. At least at first. Then if it doesn't work, go in and remove the civ directory and all of it's contents.

Now that's just plain weird. Anyway, just delete the main Civ II files you can find. Use Sherlock afterwards to hunt down and delete any stray files, then reinstall. That's how I do it when one of my experiments go wrong.

I had this problem with one of my games. I was able to get around it by clearing the hall of fame, then restarting the game. the games I had saved without cheating were shown as being without cheat mode.

i too just noticed this phenomenon..... no cheat recorded but the cheat file has a tick mark next to it..... really werid....

it went away but not for some saved games i had...

i just installed the civ2 crack and thus reinstalled the patch and the whole game..... now it works fine of course....

my only guess is someone is saving games with the cheat file enabled by mistake..... probably testing a theory and then it sticks..... i think it goes away if you shut civ down..... but those old saves will still have the tick mark by the cheat menu ....

This was a really weird bug, since even a new game with the same leader name became listed as a cheater. I cleared the hall of fame, then deleted all my saved games that I had saved after opening the cheat menu, and it worked fine.

I have never had to reinstall for this problem....
