  • Help! I can't get scenarios to load

I recently bought Civ II [Version 2.4.2] after finally giving up on CTP.

I downloaded several scenarios from the database here, and here's my problem: I don't know how to use them.

There doesn't seem to be a special Scenarios folder - the scenarios that came with the game just hang out in the Civ2 directory with all the other files. If I create a directory for the downloaded scenario files to reside in, they won't load. If I extract them directly into the Civ2 directory, first they overwrite several critical game files, and THEN they won't load. I get general protection faults all over the place no matter what I do, and I end up having to do a reinstall.

What am I doing wrong? I am running Windows 98, if that makes a difference.

    1. gave up CTP? well done!

    2. create a major folder, like "scenario"

    3. create a folder for each scenario in that major folder, like "lotr"

    4. unzip the scenario zip file in that certain scenario folder

    5. start civ2

    6. "start scenario"

    7. pick the location: open the "scenario" folder, then the certain scenario folder, like "lotr" or "wwi" or "jewels" or "mongol" or whatever

    8. choose the SCN file from the file menu

this should work fine.. if it doesn't edit the labels.txt and increase the heap size... if that doesn't work: buy a new machine

Most scenarios require Fantasic Worlds (2.7.8l) or higher to run correctly. Most sites that have scenarios will tell you what version you need for what scenario. Also you can grab either my Fantastic Worlds patch or my MGE patch and play whatever scenarios you want. You can get them here http://hometown.aol.com/cedricgreene

Also, like Ecthelion said, you will need to create sub-folders for your scenarios or it will kill your original civ 2 files.
          should be something like this:
          C:\mps\Civ2\scenarios\scenario name\
