  • Is this the right patch?

Ok, I downloaded this Multi-player patch from a civ2 site, but the icon looks kind of funny, so . . . is it the right one? I'm using MGE and this machine is a PC, not a mac. What should the correct patch look like? What will it say? What should I look for to verify that this is the right one?

    Confused again,

Exile - I seem to have misled you. I told you you'd be overwhelmed with friendly advice. So much for generous PC players, huh?

I had a poke around this site and found this -
    http://www.apolyton.net/civ2/

It seems to offer a download of the latest PC patch for version 2.42, the version I assume you have. Give it a try. Failing someone who knows better coming along and giving you a better lead.

      Think I figured it out.

Now begins the trial-and-error process. Learning is so painful.

      Thanx, finbar, (for everything).

v2.42 is the latest Single Player patch and applying it to an MP game will quite thoroughtly destroy it!!!

Sorry about that, Chief. Serves a Mac player right for trying to help out a PC player. Thanks for the rest of your info anyway.

Exile - you realise, of course, that after all this hard work and frustration, we might decide to charge you a fee to join our games. Like the title deed to your house, the balance of your pension fund, whatever.

v2.42 is the latest Single Player patch and applying it to an MP game will quite thoroughtly destroy it!!!

There are - AFAIK - three variants of the MP version of Civ

Multiplayer Gold Edition - generally available everywhere except Europe

Ultimate Civilization Classic Edition - more or less the same thing available in most of Europe

Ultimate Civilization Multiplayer - not seen outside of the UK

Each of these requires a different variant of the 1.3 Patch

all were available from the Microprose site, but may well not be there now, only the MGE variant is on the Apolyton DataBase (as of about a fortnight ago)

An alternative is to get Julius' "No Limits" patch from the ADB - this appears to be v1.3 compatible, but I have not personally verified this compatibility - could anyone that has done so please post here...

            Good luck.

hmmmmm. Better watch it. I might just immigrate to Australia.

actually I have problems with MGE patches myself... I'm playing the German version, and after installling the patch 3 (standard is patch 2 for me), I can't save games anymore, at least in SP mode, same about scenario saving... in MP, everything works fine...
