  • Stuff I should know about Civ 2

Hi, I'm a novice civ 2 player who has not, as of yet, visited the civ 2 strategy forums and I would like to know all the necessary information I will need to know here (like I've seen 1xprod vs. 2xprod and know what they mean, but what is the easiest way to switch between these settings?). Anything else would be helpful.
I don't have much to say 'cause I won't be here long.

Start with the tutorial and rules - all the basics you need to start are there. Once you get the hang of game mechanics, browse these forums for any interesting topics. Until you get used to playing, the specific strategies might be confusing. The Great Library thread (in CivII Strategies) is brimming full of info. Read and reap the reward!

2x productions is ONLY an option when setting up a MP game. In standard Single Play mode, it is not an option.

However, I know some people play SP mode by loading a MP game, and just starting the game with only AI's. This allows you to use 2x production or the 2x movement options.

I don't play MP, so I don't know about all that stuff. Thanks, anyway.

May I ask another question: is there an easy way to switch between 1xprod and 2xprod, or do you just use two different rules.txt files?

You can start a multiplayer hotseat game with two players, making sure to pick 2x production as an option, then on the first turn retire one of the two human players. Voila! Single-player game with 2x production. I played with it briefly and decided it could be way overpowering against the AnotI .
