Is there anyway to have more then 8 nations in a game??

I''ve been spoilt by CivPTW and have grown used to 16 to 32 sides a game. Is there anyway this is possible for Civ2?

No ! it's only 7, including you
The more you can get is to play with the barbarians and have 7 opponents, but it's not that fun as you cannot gain technologies or keep your gold. You lose science and money at each turn.
