  • 'Fake peace' bug???

No doubt others have encountered this bug before-the AI is officially at peace with you, but it can declare war at will, etc. It states you are at peace, but in the 'embassy intelligence' it states only that you have contact with them. Is there a patch I am unaware of for this bug? Or have I misunderstood something?
    Thanks

Peace treaties and cease fires with the AI last exactly as long as it suits the AI.

I got something like that. On an scenario, where everybody is at war and unable to talk, I got a message when I went to attack about 20 turns in, i got a message that we would be breaking a peace treaty. This had not ever happened before, or since.

      'But the AI allways cheats!'
      Yes, it does.
The harder it is, the more flagarent the cheating.

How can you defeat an enemy which will never accept defeat?

I've had the repeating peace treaty many times.
You're at peace with a civ. You demand tribute, and they agree if you sign a peace treaty. Hmmm, since we already have one, it sounds like a good deal.

Or the AI offering a peace treaty when one already exists.

Some people believe that the turn before they're going to break a cease fire or treaty, that even though you have either, the AI won't recognize that fact. So my talking to them, you can determine if they're ready to come after you.

In a number of OCC and EL games I have set up and maintained peace treaties throughout most of the game. After some point, when you stop gifting techs and their attitude slips below Neutral, your "peace treaty" will disappear and the AI screen will show "Contact" (on the intel screen, not the Foreign Minister screen). Immediate diplomacy with attitude improvement (tech gifting) will fix things, but not for too long. I have not rigorously studied the problem: I'd like to know: after what date or tech will this start happening, what the attitude will be when the treaty evaporates, and how long will the new treaty last till it disappears again (I have seen this happen five or six times in a row with the same civ).

            And on a related note....
What if they sneak attack you and break a treaty and one of their units ends up sitting on your city square or similarly during a peace treaty they decide to setup camp close by thereby forcing one of your pop to abandon its production on that square essentially destroying your meticulously planned micromanagement!! Infuriating when your'e about to discover an advance leaving you with 3 beakers to go.....

Anyway to counter this like..."Would you pls get the heck off my land:

Which version of the game are you using? I have found this happens far less frequently using 2.42 than it did when I was using FW.

I'm using 2.42, rjmatsleepers. Perhaps it has to do with an alliance I broke with them, but I doubt it. It isn't a matter of attitude, either-they are "receptive". I'm also spotless in reputation and very supreme in power (Half the map is mine). Any suggestions or ideas?
