Well some bright spark tries to read among the stars how much hours a turn of 500g will cost
As for the plan, I agree with you : trading is the key. You can put science to 10% and get 1 tech/a turn in fundy easily with some good freights delivery. That's what happened in the Mrs Mongol succession game during my last turn.

The former gives us the advantage of early money with tithes - whilst the latter means our science rate can remain higher for longer. Could the 8 caravans used to build Lady Liberty be put to better use? Watch this space...
I'd vote for a delivering those caravans as a celebrating Monarchy. We can generate a lot more science as a celebrating Monarchy than Fundy, plus the delivery bonuses of the caravans. We'll be well on our way to the real thing.

Not quite AWOL, just a little busy of late (also posted in the TOT thread). The heathen delights aren't until the August long weekend.

In 340ad, our holy Mother Jezebel makes an unusual choice for the new spiritual leader of the Zealots. From outside the caste of priests, she chooses the great shaman Sodaq, known for his mastery of things arcane. His first act as leader is to found Spirit Source west of the main island. The Shaman and wise men order a new Warrior Code. The great shaman declares that our zealous people deserve a heaven here on the ground. "As it is above, so shall it be below!" he declares. Wise men point out that we don't have a clue about how it is above. Sodaq immediately sets them to work to discover the secrets of astronomy. The foreign advisor reports that our petty boasts cause much laughter in the heathen courts.

Before long, the advanced tribe of Juju sees the light of our religion, and agrees to join our fold. The people, pleased with the leadership of the great shaman, hang a bear hide behind the throne of Mother Jezebel. She is impressed. In the ensuing years, the empire expands by leaps and bounds. Preacher Isle and Inquisitor Isle are settled. The wise tribe of Proselyte Point joins our expanding kingdom. Settlers found Voodoo and Vodka Im Port. Some new woodwork is added to the great mother's throne room. In order to keep the party going in the palace, the taxmen allow minimal luxuries to the public.

Tho most foreigners seem to loath us, we traded Babylonians for secret of University. Sodaq casts a spell on the Egyptians, who become mysteriously friendly to us. We exchange maps, revealing an unsinkable trireme sailing directly toward our home island... The same spell works on the Chinese. Their map reveals nothing of interest.

The brazen Vikings are punished for their insolence. Brave crusaders sack the Viking stinkhole of L'Udal. Heathen voices are forever quieted by our holy blades! Sodaq's clever ways extract the secret of Engineering from a local magistrate, who is then put out of his misery. Several turns later, we relieve the Vikings of Viborg, 3 settlers, 2 phalanx, and knowledge of Construction. A fair return for 500 gold. The city is renamed Cyborg. This may not be a safe place, our knowledge of the island is very old...

Near the end of Sodaq's rule, the wise men figure out the secret of Astronomy. The next research target will be left up to the shaman's successor.

The foreign minister reports that the Vikings have decided to rid the world of us. All seven cities on the home island are building caravans. We will have plenty to rush build a wonder and then some. With so many food caravans preparing for a wonder, trade has languished. On the bright side, we are now the most populous people on the planet! Sodaq doubled the number of cities to 18, and research has sped up by several turns per tech. May his successor bring us closer to the stars!

Sodaq retires to Spirit Source to teach young shaman and priests the secret trance and vision inducing powers of banana peels and camel dung.

A turn well played, Marquis. My favorite city in our magnificent queendom is now the exquisitely named Vodka Im Port. I trust our Sioux, er, Zealot vodka is superior to Polish and Russian vodka.

                      To the brethren:
I have tried everything I can think of to get the MGE patch to work but Civ continues to cause errors and shut down my games. Since the newly bugun Sticky Mouse game is in 2.42, and I've not had problems with that, I regret that I must leave the Zealots in favor of the Sticky Mouse Senate. With arms extended I offer this blessing

May your cities be fruitful, may your women be fertile and may your civilization be the seat of wisdom and power. May you also crack heads along the wway to satisfy your aggressive tendencies.

Once discovered the power of electricity Mr. Niccolò (the Heretic) turns on his powerful home pc.
Lights in the cave fade down and the blue light of the screen "enlighten" the ex-heretic.
But, what? Nope! It doesn't work... oh my!
Aaaargh, I forgot, this is a MGE holy succession game.
No problem, I'll only have to use my holy mo-dem, do a quick search in the Apolyton Consacred Archives and d/load the patch.
Unfortunately the internet connection appears to work at speed light... well candle-like-speed...
Brother, I have to give up, I tried 3 times to download the patch and the connection died in the middle...
It took about 3 minutes to d/load 79k, and I really hope that this message will reach you...

... inside the mountain, whipping my back with the modem cable...
