  • Is it worth getting Civ 3

I have been playing Civ 2 for YEARS and was wondering if Civ 3 was sufficiently different to buy it, or will I wait til the price comes down a bit????

    hmmmm....tough call.
If its a matter of Civ3 or food,I would choose food

Its worth picking up though...I guess.Who knows?..you may even like it!

waiting is not a terrible plan either....the game is still not finished and is evolving....
The only thing that matters to me in a MP game is getting a good ally.Nothing else is as important.......Xin Yu

i recommend waiting. so far there's no way to make scenarios and there's no MP either. and as smash said, the game appears to still be evolving.

if you do decide to get it, don't get the "Limited" Edition, unless you really like tins. i'm $20 poorer, and 1 tin richer

Yah. When a dozen-odd scenarios becomes zero-odd scenarios and the set of designers notes becomes a note from the designer pretty much the only thing you've got left is the tin.

btw CW, does your tin still close? Apparently that has become a problem in some cases too...

Course I suppose they don't actually give you a guarantee that it will close

YES! Of course it's worth getting. Just think of how great the feeling is of collecting ALL the Civs, SMAC etc. and lining up all the boxes! A collector's paradise.

Oh, you meant whether the GAME is worth getting. Well, uh....

Yes. Eventually. Things are looking up now they have a beta team with fan involvement as a major part. It will be a game to remember, but, yeah, it has a way to go yet.

The game is still work in progress. I've enjoyed playing so far, but the flaws are obvious. If you want a game now, it's better than alot that is out there. But, if you can wait, I'm sure you will end up buying a more complete game with their next release.
              Keep on Civin'

yes if you can snag it for $30 or less. I just can't see spending $50 for this game.

I got bored of it too quickly. I still have hope the programmers can salvage it.

The first half of the game is damn fun. It's a rush trying to compete with the ai in the beginning. Late game tedium is worse than any game I have ever played. It is beyond bad.

It's definately a game worth checking out. But not for a whole lot of money.

                I say wait a bit.

Thanks, I think I'll wait then. I recently got Caesar III so I'll keep messing about with that for a while!

I think you should buy it. It's not as deep as civ2 (obviously ) or smac, but definitely worth a look. I have played it more than any other game I've bought for a while.

If you're still enjoying Civ2 very much, then there's no reason you should get Civ3...yet.

Like others said, it'll be a more complete package with time.

I myself got bored with it quite quickly, and it's too time consuming for me

SMAC is on a higher stage of development

                          Civ3 is for CTP players

I would wait for a cheaper MP gold.
