  • Emperor vs. Diety

Can anyone explain the difference between Emperor and Diety level? I mean within the program.

I can win Emperor if I'm drunk and blindfolded and usually before 1000 AD (meaning a space launch). But when I play Diety, the AI civs seem to be discovering Renaissance level techs while my civ is researching Alphabet...

I've also noticed that the AI civs also get to cheat. I've used spies to check out opponent cities and they often only need 5 shield per row instead of 10 to produce units (is this a government related effect?).

    Main differences on Deity are:

    - Only one content citizen per city
    - Reduced food baskets and production quotas for everything
    - (I think) improved unit performance in battle ( maybe only against barbs)

(edit) There is a long list of AI cheats of all sorts in the Great Library in the Strategy forum

The reduced production quotas for the AI affect not only the shield cost of units, the AI also gets free shields. The AI always plays at king level happiness, which means they have a huge advantage on deity.

Generally, deity requires much more attention to detail by the human player. Missed chances to optimize production or science have a greater effect, and that accumulates as the game goes on.
