What factors effect weather a civ will split appart whenb you take the capital (obviously, there has to be a free cuv colour).
I jusst took the sioux capital with their nation at about 15 cities, and nothing

From memory, for an AI civ to split, the civ has to be the biggest in the game at the time it loses its capital. There also has to be, of course, a civ colour available to provide the other half of the split.

This is a touchy situation. it has to be more complicated than that. I posted a thread on this subject a while back in the strat forum, and never got a satisfactory answer.
This arose from a game I was playing. During their conquest of the romans, the americans had twice caused civil war. But whenever I took the american capitol, they never split. I chased the capitol around for 5 retries but it never happened. At this point in the game, the americans were clearly the largest country, and we were down to 3 civs from 7.
If anyone has info on this, I would like to know.
Any man can be a Father, but it takes someone special to be a BEAST
I was just about to point out that Horsie is simply making excuses in advance for why he will suck at Civ III...

Mmmm. They're the only criteria I've ever known. On the other hand, I've never actually set out to achieve it. Whenever it's happened, it's been as a byproduct of whatever I've been up to at the time. I must set out to achieve it and see what other requirements might be needed.

Being the largest civ is definitely not the condition. I've seen civil war erupt in a ten city civ whose capitol fell to a 50 city civ. Only a guess, but I suspect happiness level comes into play. As Father Beast mentions, nobody really knows for sure...

if its powergraph leader, then its whoever has the bioggest army, which is normally me....
but there nothing more fun then splitting your arch enemies into 2 and them having a massive war on 2 fronts.
I also think that at the loss of a capital some of the surrounding cities should join the empire that conquered the capital, just to add effect and stuff. Like, the nearest cities with only one garrison as defence or somthin'

btw, is the power mentioned in the power grpah different from the power mention when so and so completes his epic 'the most Powerful nations in the World'.

Each "so and so" measures a different thing.1 does gold,1 tech,1 population,1 military etc.A few others..so yes and no.There is more "so and so's" than just pop, tech and gold iirc.
I also was quite surprised units had no effect. It just confirmed what I thought all along-that the PG was suspect....especially for MP games.
The only thing that matters to me in a MP game is getting a good ally.Nothing else is as important.......Xin Yu
