[Fiji]

Most people here have probably at some time tried to image what the battles actually look like.
Some movies do a good job of showing this:
Legion vs Warrior: Gladiator

Musketeer vs Musketeer: Patriot
Knight vs Pikemen: Braveheart
Marines vs Partisan: Full Metal Jacket

are there any other good examples?

I wondered the same thing. I recall the British using muzzle loading, long barreled guns (with bayonets).

I would think that it would be

phalanx vs. riflemen

(The Zulus did have small spears)

horsemen vs. settlers (any Western movie)

I think it would be riflemen versus warriors.

If we weren't using rifles by the Boer War I'd be amazed, They were certainly available and the world's leading nation would certainly have been aware of them, also the ratio of troops would suggest a better weapon than a musket. I think that the phalanx suggests a better level of organisation and armour than the Zulus' possessed in battle, no disrespect intended, the Scots took a severe doing for the same martial sins, but I think the Zulus' had more in common with the warriors than the phalanx
