  • How Long Do You Play?

I usually play at least another 1000 years past the required retirement. I find it hard to play a new game because I find myself trying to build cities where they were in my old game.

I hardly ever go much farther than the railroad age if I have lots of units, for then I spend about 20 minutes moving my units to the fronts instead of enjoying the infastructure, railroads should not be as powerful. They should only allow *2 movement.

I play too long for sure !
Usually I like technological games, and try to developp quietly in the early stages. So there is almost always big long games awaiting me if try to conquer the world once I've got advanced flight or try to reach AC if some other Civ doesn't see it that way.
But I wouldn't play after 2020AD, unless I am in the extended game of ToT (score still counts).

I never play past the end. The last time I played past the end was in civ1. The points are what count for me. Just like the post counts are what many people live for on Apolyton.

Do you play the same world over and over? I would think generating new custom worlds would solve that problem.

As to the thread question, I play until 2020 unless I win via AC or conquest ( ) or get waxed by the AI ( ).

I just play til the end usually, whehter that be AC, 2020 or world domination
I've only once played past 2020, and that was a SP game where I wanted to see how developed I could get my throne room.
I got bored and gave up at around 3000, IIRC!

I have played past 2020 maybe a couple of times. Since the goal of the game is to win by 2020, continuing the game after that point does not interest me. I either won or lost and that's it.

I don't like random worlds because they don't seem comfortable because I suddenly have to search for resources and I lose the feeling of sucruity nestled in Europe (I use the Rome startpoint. (Ok, I'm reeeealy lazy)

Does anyone keep playing when he/she KNOWS he is going to lose? (e.x. the AI conquered most of your cities etc?)

It's really hard staying motivated when the computer is crushing you...

On the other hand, I admit to being a tad bored when I'm the one doing the crushing.

To answer your question, I'll continue to play if there is a reasonable chance. I hate just playing out a lopsided battle. Moving all those units around is just plain tedious...and who could be bothered with setting up new trade routes when you are so far ahead...especially with that 30K gold limit.
                      Haven't been here for ages....

One of these days, I keep promising myself, I WILL finish the "forever war". I am getting close to 3000 now and my eventual domination seems inevitable. those ugly americans just have to make the mistake of changing governments again and I can buy up a few more of their cities. and a few more, and a few more...

who the heck cares about score? in the forever war, there never was a score anyway (some sort of bug), and I play for the scheming and the fun. for scoring, check the "High scores discussion" link at the great library in the strategy forum.

to answer another question, I will fight a losing war with the AI to see how long I can hold out, and maybe I might be able to win anyway. see My First Deity Game in Viking archives (the one by Father Beast) in this forum.

                          2600 was my longest game.

usualy I finish at 2020, while timing the spaceship to land in 2019.

                          i'm perfectionist.

I play until I win or lose. But usually i win a good 300 years before 2020.
