  • The President's Report - 1160 AD

The Tale of the Years - 1000 to 1160 AD

1000 - Adjust Workers and Production according to Ministers' Reports.

1020 - Vigo and Seville to into Civil Disorder (by population increase). Convert Workers to Specialists. Warrior pops a Hut and gets Pottery. Barb Trireme sighted near Japanese 'Nagoya'.

1040 - Barbs attack Nagoya. Caravans nearing CAPITOL. Halfway to Construction. Trireme with Coal Caravan moved into Freeport to await a destination. Found new Hut and popped it, got an advanced tribe (Santander). Well, it least it comes with a Temple and Marketplace. Can't disestablish it because it gets 3 food in the citysquare.

1060 - Moving Caravans and Exploring. Barbs still attacking Nagoya. Good, it'll keep them both busy.

1080 - Barb Horse appears at Freeport. We have 2 Warriors fortified there. I think about moving the Trireme out, but decide to fortify it too. Discover Carth city of 'Gades'.

1100 - Our Freeport Warriors kill the attacking Barb Horse; 1 becomes a Vet. Trade Philosophy to Chinese for Construction and Philosophy to Japanese for Iron Working (after signing a cease-fire). Carths won't trade. Trireme with 2 Diplomats north of Nagoya veers off course due to sudden storm and is stuck off-shore at night. Sailors are terrified and want to kill the steersman, but the Diplomats counsel sparing him so they can try for land in the morning.

1120 - The Trireme survives the dangers of the night and the hapless steersman guides them stright into Nagoya harbor! Senior Diplomat enters city and steals Warrior Code, but pays with his life. His wisdom and sacrifice will be remembered for days… Japanese and Chinese declare war on us; so much for the cease-fire. Horseman pops Hut and gets University. Trireme embarks Polar Diplomat (who drinks a load of warm rum and amuses the crew with his drunken antics).

Because we are currently researching nothing, I hold off on delivering a Silk Caravan to Beijing (I want those beakers!). Move 7 Caravans into CAPITOL and then buy 2 shields for 8 gold. Our work on Mike's Chapel will be complete soon!

1140 - Mike's is built! Happiness spreads throughout all of New Apolytonia and the sound of unseen chapel bells is heard mysteriously in every city! The people rejoice and idle Workers return to the fields and forests to redouble their efforts. CAPITOL immediately starts work on Oracle (to deceive any enemy Diplomats regarding our true purpose, Leo's). We are allowed to start researching Engineering, which shows up ¾ done! The Silk Caravan enters Beijing for 288 gold and a ton of beakers; it's nearly completed already!

1160 - We learn Engineering and immediately start on Invention! More Caravans are streaming toward CAPITOL with supplies and materials for Leo's. Other Caravans and Diplomats are moving toward Trade cities and the enemy's secret research centers.

We have gold, we have techs, we have a Wonder, we RULE!
On the other hand, everybody we've met is at War with us…

froma technology point of view it sounds good. and adding Mike's is a great achievement. But i don't see anything about our cities building infrastructure for growth. We must be building tons camels and dips

From memory there isn't all that much infrastructure we can build right now that would benefit many cities, plus the screenshot of our income/expenditure (haven't looked at the save yet) shows we have a surplus of 0 - that's right, we can't support any more improvements without Republic, some Wonders like Adam Smith's, or a lot more roads.

I think Caravans (leading to Wonders) are the best option for the moment.
        Consul.

Back to the ROOTS of addiction. My first missed poll!

We'll be a republic shortly, so I wouldn't worry too much about cash.

Overall a good round of play. As for being at war with everyone, well gives our learned Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minsister of Defence a bit more work to do.

We will not be waging any war with our warriors--> first gunpowder and Leo's then we'll see who we should punish

Shade,I hope I can take a look at the save tonight

                  WITNESS THE POWER OF TRADE!

                  Trade-related beakers for science,
trade-related GP for incremental rushbuying more caravans.

Getting Santander with built-in temple a great stroke of luck.
Not losing the trireme after an apparent finger-fumble, same.

All set up for Republic. Excellent round of play.

                      Great turns
The civ at war with us is not a problem, as we are on a defensive position and they'll finish to propose cease fire.

I hate getting "advanced tribes". They are almost always a square or two away from good resources. Usually, I starve then into Settlers, but Santander was producing too much food. I doubt it will ever be a really good city, but ever little bit of gold and trade helps...

The Trireme mis-move really annoyed me. I hit the 1 and 2 keys simultaneously and the ship moved 2 squares away from land with 1 move left. Well, it never hurts to be lucky, I suppose.
