We currently have 5 Caravans. These are:
-1 Coal in a Trireme off the shores of China. This is obviously heading for Beijing, the one city we know of that demands Coal. I recommend we establish the trade route to Beijing with this caravan as it is from CAPITOL, the most productive trade centre we have.
-1 Coal near Salamanca. We have a wounded Trireme to the East tha could transport this to China/Japan for a trade route, but it is possible once the first Coal trade is done there will be no city that demands Coal. I propose we sentry this Caravan where it is going to (Barcelona, on the shores of the sea separating us from China/Japan) unitl the first Coal route is established. If another demand pops up for Coal, we should send this caravan off there. If not, relocate the Caravan between CAPITOL and Seville for ready use for a WoW.
-2 Silk near Valladolid. A Trireme will be built in Valladolid in about 6 turns (with city growth factored in), presumably to transport both caravans to China/Japan, where several cities demand Silk. I propose these caravans go to the largest Chinese cities that demand Silk (currently Beijing and Canton). If demand changes, go to the next largest cities, taking care with Japan, as we are at war with them.
-1 Spice at St. Praski. Shanghai and Canton both demand this, so I propose we send this caravan to Barcelona to ship off to China on the wounded Trireme.
We are constructing 6 Caravans in these cities, with these available and suggested cargoes:
Avila (Wool, Salt) - Suggest Salt (Wool not demanded)
Cordoba (Coal, Cloth, Gold) - Cloth (Gold, Coal not demanded)
Valencia (Cloth, Oil) - Cloth (Oil not demanded)
St. Praski (Gold, Gems) - Either (neither demanded)
Seville (Coal, Copper, Gems) - Copper (others not demanded)
Salamanca (Coal, Gold) - Either (neither demanded)
Once any of these are built, I suggest we use them to set up trade routes with China where possible, or Japan if China does not demand them.
-Caravans from Seville, Cordoba and Valencia travel SE to Barcelona as a pick-up point.
-Caravans from Salamanca and St.Praski move to between Capitol and Seville for possible later use to build a WoW.
-Caravan from Avila moves E to be picked up by Trireme being built in Malaga (to be finished about 5-6 turns). This Caravan will need to be either taken to Japan (only place it is currently demanded) or dropped off near Cordoba to make the land route to the pick-up point at Barcelona if the Trireme has other orders.
Future caravan construction is wholly dependent on city sizes and whether we would be better off with Libraries et. al, but for the moment I don't see why I can't request the City Planner that he keep building Caravans in every city except CAPITOL not occupied with Settlers. Triremes or Temples. All demanded cargoes should travel to the closest demanding city, and others should move to between CAPITOL and Seville for later WoW use.
