It's not difficult. Even a weak little program like MS Paint will handle it. It took some experimenting, but I've figured it out now. If you run for an office for next month and win, don't worry; I'll explain it then.

I'm just curious, are there any positions that don't get to play the game? I can't remember which ones are "minor" positions.

Only the President actually plays the game sessions. Each of the Ministers (of Science, Foreign Affairs, War, Trade, Imperial Expansion, and City Planning) poll the Citizens and make recommendations to the President). Each Minister and the Historian gets a copy of the saved game file after each session.

Aren't there other, more minor positions? I think I remember reading about them...

Of course I've always been half dead in this forum anyway - in that I tend to forget to visit for weeks upon end and then suddenly turn up and don't have a clue what's happening! I've never run for a post and am on record as saying I never will - but you'll be pleased (or otherwise) to hear I have definately not defected to the Civ3 forum.

In fact because of the Civ 3 forum I intend to increase my participation here in the Civ 2 game. Whether that will involve ever running for anything remains to be seen, but the fact is I still feel ripped off by Civ 3 and am on an extended leave of absense from the game which is still far from over. Civ2 rocks and my (quasi-)participation in the democracy game thus far has both entertained me and considerably enhanced my knowledge of the different tactics available. It also introduced me to MPG. I've played several games at home since joining which I've enjoyed much more as a result of these new ideas. Never has the art of lurking been more rewarding!

No doubt exam time has hit many people. This is beyond my ken personally but a surprising proportion of people who participate in forums are connected with acedemia in one way or another. I wonder if the soccer World Cup might be distracting some people here in Europe too. In order to watch the games, it's necessary to take time off work which might be reducing some peoples' pool of free time, or stopping those who browse at work from participating so often. Not a fan of the game myself so just guessing here.

I forgot to mention the Vice President (not minor, equal to the other positions). The VP is there to replace the President in case of resignation or disappearance, and conducts the election polls at the end of the month.

There aren't any other positions. One person named a Deputy Minister for his job, but it wasn't official and didn't work out anyway. Another person suggested several new Minister positions, but they were voted down.

Although I'm not without blame myself it seems this place toned down a bit since everybody is posting in the 50 threads on civ3demo.

Do we need to take a headcount of players still here?

Well, I am, and not planning on leaving untill the proud Apolytonian empire has conquered the whole planet
Once all the startup hubub is gone, youll probaly get some people back. Rigth now there's a bazililon threads in the civ3 forum, I have a feeling that as the game starts it will be more possible to split one's poly time between the two games.

I have been distracted some by that game, but if more were happening over here i'd spend more time over here...most of the people who have disappeared have not been seen at the civ3 game either...

The Civ3 demo game seems too foreign and confusing to me. It's nice to be home at this place rather than wallowing therough the mess that is a game in it's creation stage. What they really need over there are some leaders to step out of the mess and get them started, then back off for a little bit, as to not become dictator-types. Like we had happen here.

Citizens come and Citizens go. It is our strength that new people show up as others depart for newer interests and real-life demands. A lot of people are following our game even if they don't actively participate. I'm not too concerned about it.
