Having never played a game on Deity level or with the MGE, you'll have to be patient with me. Is the only way to win on that level to steamroll through a conquest victory, or is a science victory possible? Also, how long till it's all over?

You can win under either victory condition at Deity, Bigcash. But the AI makes it much easier and more satisfying to just KILLKILLKILL the bastards!!!!!!!!!!!!Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011

Landing on Alpha Centauri is a winning option at Deity level. But at this late date, it would be almost impossible to get the productivity and science needed to build the spaceship. Having focussed on military development, and having stayed in Monarchy and gone directly to Communism, we are pretty much forced to continue a military path.

Excellent. Then here's my recommendation: If we find out how to make nukes and haven't won the scenario, then we need to create an arsenal of 10 or so, so that if we start to run out of turns, we can launch those bad boys and open up a quick invasion force.
Even though I hate nukes because they make the landscape all ugly and make it hard to make a productive city after nuking it, it might be one of our only options if time is running out.Signed,

Ah, the old "scorched Earth" policy...
Well, it is certainly easier to do that in an island world. We just transport them by ship and drop them on the coastal cities (and almost all cities are coastal).
It seems a bit inelegant (as if attacking with waves of Crusaders is), but I will hope for a better ending than that. On the other hand, I won't be the President when we get to that point.
It's a possibility that that will be the best strategy at the time...

What? This is like playing Civ2 at the slow kids school. You always build Marco Polo's embassy, because it rules.Signed,

...You know, deity level is better because the AI will frequently attack themselves anyway wheras on lower levels, they iwll gang up against you
Therefore it's well worth it to conquest-->Visit CGN!
