  • Civ2 MGE or Civ2?

is the game in Civ2 or Civ2 MGE? because the regular civ2 had an AI that actually made peace with people. when MGE was released, they made the AI HATE the human in any circumstance, because of the possible ganging up.

just curious at why the whole worlds hostile.

Well, that's an interesting question. I didn't think it made any difference. I know that I played the session on Civ2 MGE, but I don't know about the other President's.

I can tell you that India in our game is at peace with everyone. Maybe that messes up your theory, but I can't prove it.

The game IS in MGE, and MGE games (from my exp with it) feature excessively hostile AI. The Indians may only be at peace with us because, well, they're PEACEFUL, aren't they?

If you wanted MGE, you can always get it from CivFanatics.

Well, I haven't used my original Civ2 CD since the MGE came out, so I wouldn't know. But it seems odd that they would have bothered to re-write the AI for a game version intended to be used for multiple human play... Interesting.

It's an MGE game and I'm used to normal civ2==> these AI are more than hostile geez...You attack-> they hate you
You leave them alone-> they hate you
You give them stuff-> they hate you after they got it
They DEMAND stuff, you don't give it=> WAR
You ask something(like move all those troops away from my city)=> WAR?????

This really isn't a good thing...even when your army can sneeze them to oblivion they stay agressive and demand stuff like they are king of the universe.

it does make a big difference. if we were playing with Civ2 (NOT mge) the AIs would be a lot more friendlier... perhaps we might even have a friend.

I wonder how many of those original voters are still around?

Does it matter? AFAIK, we can't change it now. Or can we?

I think you're right - unless somebody goes to tremendous effort to edit a game and make everything JUUUUUST right...

But then, all who don't have MGE can get it from CivFanatics anyway, if you don't have Civ2 you SHOULD and we may as well keep going anyway...

Whilst I understand Shade's frustration with the "everyone hates us" aspect of the MGE AI, which can be a bit unrealistic at times, I do think it is the more difficult version of the game to play, and thus the more satisfying to win, so I'm personally glad the game is being played this way.

                        little bit of OT rant
I don't know...yes it might be harder to win(MGE vs 2.42) instead of 10 turns totallytarian war to whipe out everything you need 50 because the agressivness made it impossible to build something up.
Personally I'm no warmonger, most of my wars are fought with spies bribing everything they can get their hands on(cfr record-attempt), and if you're the one declaring war all the time I don't think you really notice this agressiveness but it's a pain when you want to be a little friendly...you have never done anything that could cause someone to hate you, they enter your territory, you ask them to leave you get war.No problem if something like this happens once in a while but it's almost every time.
You build an empire that's 1000 times as strong as what they have and they still keep bullying you like you are the one with only one city...
This is the only really bad thing in civ2 and I find it strange it even got enhanced in MGE.
It's as if Monaco and Liechtenstein and Andorra would forge an alliance and start bullying US, Russia or even the entire UN.
                        end of little rant.
                        this is much better...

Neither Civ2 nor Civ MGE are inherently more accurate to history. But it does appear that MGE is harder to win (and I do thank everyone that explained about that - I had no idea). So let's accept that it is an MGE game, and glory in our sucess as it occurs and may turn out at the end.

There is no satisfaction greater than raising to the highest challenge!

(oh man, does that sound sappy or what)? But it is still true.

the advantage of the game here is that we can spin out the "crush, kill and destroy" part over multiple months=> so frustration over the AI is equally spread out.( eg 100 frustration points in 1 day become 100 frustration points/month => we stay calm and make even less mistakes then normally )
