  • Military plans, 840ad

Important message from your Supreme Military Commander

As you have surely heard in the news, the foolish Egyptians did not appreciate our recent acquisition of banking technology. We currently have a cease fire. This is, of course, little more than a pause while we can build up forces for an attack.

    Military status, 840ad:
City defence requirements, allowing for growth within the next few turns:

One city, Walvis Baai, still has NO TEMPLE and requires 3 unit martial law to keep the naysayers quelled. The Minister is officially unamused by this.

The following cities need at least 2 martial law units:
Apolyton (3 without a specialist worker)
    Balsindia
    Riverton

The rest of our cities need only 1 martial law unit or defender. (Note: The Minister does not recommend leaving fewer than 2 units in any city)We have 3 available units with an attack of at least 4, in Nova Hispania, Umbra, and Paha Sapa. This is half of what I would consider a viable invasion force. There is also one crusader on a trireme near New Castellon. Three triremes of mounted units could sack any unwalled AI city we choose to take.

Intelligence shows us that the Egyptians are building Adam Smith's Trading Company for us in Elephantine. Logistically, this is good. Elephantine lies on a peninsula - we will be able to cut off any reinforcements arriving from Egypt proper. Also, it has a max production of 4 shields. They are a republic, so that each defender reduces this amount. It is unwalled, and should remain so until after the wonder is completed.

Here is the ripe fruit of their labor, ready for picking:

When voting, remember that conquering a city also allows acquisition of a tech. Diplomats can be seen as an alternative to crusaders (unless you work for the Military Advisor, that is) in our war plans.

Logistics also decree that a successful invasion will require at least 3 ships for transport. The minister of city planning will need to account for the possibility of constructing more boats, should an invasion be approved by the populace.

For those who wish peace with Egypt, we will organize a joint Antarctic Bathymetry Survey in the waters south of Thebes.

Hmm...I seem to recall something about bananas and porno flicks...

Seriously, we should take that wonder as soon as its built. While we're there, why don't we go ahead and take over the rest of their territory too?

I say conquer them. We shouldn't rest until they are wiped off the planet.

The more I see of this city, the more I have to admit maybe war - what is it good for? Us.

I'd suggest we include at least one diplomat with your invasion squad there MdS, and a defender also, for quick consolidation of our soon to be new asset.

Perhaps crusaders should be the production target for as many of those caravan producing cities as possible once they're done. Can we spare any diplomats for the campaign or will we need them all - necessitating more to be built.

As far as taking the rest of Egypt goes, I have to reserve judgment on that until MdS gives us his in-depth take, and we see how easy it is to take Elephantine. Perhaps just this city should be our aim until we can get a larger force and start taking advantage of Adam Smith's in other cities - Elephantine is the easiest to defend and we don't want many more losses of those noble, camel-meat eating catapult fodd, er, warriors of justice in our armies.

The other Egyptian wonders are in Thebes. It is currently the world's top city. If the F3/F8 view of Thebes is current, it is unwalled. We may need to scout about before attacking - look first to see if walls are built or not. If neither city is walled, we may as well take out the capitol.

CannonFodder, we don't have a complete map of Egypt. It appears to just be a handful of widely spaced cities, tho they could have settled since our map was last updated. In any case, the geography should make it easy to defend any conquered land.

                I agree.
There is also one crusader on a trireme near New Castellon.
                Hands off.
They are supposed to go and protect New Brandenburg...don't trust those Babylonians and I would like some force there to make sure they can't do anything foolish . (but I wouldn't have any problem with that )
Three triremes of mounted units could sack any unwalled AI city we choose to take.
I think we have what we need for that close enough--> just need to build our bad boys.
                (3 triremes:
                • one with copper caravan near Rome(needs to go to Delhi afterward with a diplo and Beads(but stays close)
                • one going to the caravan near walvisbaai(can pick up the crusader I build in Umbra to )
                • one near Neo Dortmund
                )

I usually want to have my production capacity at a higher level before going to war, but there are many good reasons for this expedition against the Egyptians and the taking of Elephantine is aided by geography. That we are in Monarchy and the Egytians are a Republic will also work in our favor.

I agree with the proposed military action!
