Pretty picture, if somewhat randomly placed.

Elections are end of the month, ie about the 28th. And I have to start them off.

EDIT: Hey, where'd the dragon go? I DID see it, didn't I?

MrVP -- I bumped this thread because it had fallen a bit, and I just send MarkG the monthly (?) update on the Democracy Game. With a couple new members, plus all those ppl about to link here, it was one of the items that I thought should be accessible.

Hmm. I hate to say it, -Jrabbit, but there's an error in your summary for the Civ2 page.

*Crowd gasps - Did he say an error?*

Yes that's right, an error. I was not the runner up in the Presidential poll - I never ran. Instead, I lost the Trade war with shade, and was appointed VP by the farsighted President.

We will not send you to Siberia just yet, however - it appears you have made friends in the Council.

*Crowd gasps - Did he say an error?*

Yeah, well, I'm only human and I had promised MarkG something last Friday.

Re editorial inaccuracies -- there's more!! (crowd dutifully gasps again) I said our reputation is "Spotless" (using my faulty memory chip) when research indicates it is actually again, (IIRC) "Excellent." Plus there were a couple typos. Plus, all apostrophes got translated into dashes. (Original document was MS Word -- lost a bit in translation to vB text/HTML.)

              * Changes hats from "Historian" to "Publicist" *
Fortunately, it's just a game. All I hope to accomplish with Apolyton News is to get a few new Citizens checking us out.

it appears you have made friends in the Council.
I rather thought you might be one of them... As for Siberia, I'll only worry about that if MdS's Secret Police start sniffing around. And even then, I know how to deal with them. ( )

I hereby issue a Presidential Pardon to the Historian for any minor errors of historical accuracy, concerning the matter of selection of the current Vice President.

The election involved some back-room politicking and deals for which the Historian is not to be blamed for having confused slightly. At the time, it was not forbidden to seek 2 offices, and the selection of the VP was forced by lack of candidates. The other candidate for President, Shadowlord, and I both sought the same 2 positions (President and City-Planner). I, having gained the greater votes for President, naturally chose that position. But Shadowlord preferred (as would have I) to participate as City-Planner rather than VP. No other person having sought the position of President, I selected MWIA for the job.

I think we can trust that future elections will not be subject to the same kinds of confusion.

Confusion or collusion is up to the Historian to tell, isn't it? Historical perspective is not the problem of the present.

Your "thank-you note" had better arrive soon. I have a campaign to finance.

Of COURSE I am friends with the Historian. I must make sure that our records appropriately detail all of my wondrous successes whilst VP...

So, which luxury villa there, -Jrabbit? Oh, VERY good choice. I'll tell my real estate agent.

Remember, -Jrabbit will in the future be seen as the hero who saved us all from certain doom, pioneered the (successful) attack on Egypt, and was the REAL power behind every President, VP and Minister right from the moment he deposed the dubiously moraled Albert B.

Such is the way of he who writes the histories (it does have SOME perks, then ).

Get cracking, historian! I, too, like to flatter myself into thinking I have writing talents, so I'm watching for if you slip up. But besides that, excellent job. I am amused. Hur hur.

                            Welcome, Settler Bigcash.

Unfortunately for the Democracy Game, Chicago had great weather this weekend, so 3 more days passed without historical scribblings. Nice to know there's someone waiting in the wings, as I will be taking July off.

Then you had better keep encouraging the Historian to catch up with his scribblings. Or else you will find that your duties require you to write about the history that occurred before you arrived. Can you just imagine how many old threads you will have to read if that becomes the case?

On the other hand, when -Jrabbit retires, there may be a lot of competition for such a cushy job!
