  • Strategic city to contain Rome

    I have the impression the Romans are occupying the north bulge of this continent.If we act fast we can lock them there by placing a "Fortress-city" on the red square.We just build a city there and place 3 garnisons in it together with a diplo(or two).This would make it impossible(or as good as) for the Romans to expand further. This city would be purely for strategic reasons...no more no less.It would give us a means of containing the roman empire until we make our final descision about what to do with them.
    A second aspect that could be a plus is:the location of the city makes it possible for ships to take a shortcut.
    We don't need to worry about getting the settler to do the job there are enough of them in production.
    If you take a look at the screenshot posted with this poll you'll see what I mean.

    I know this decission isn't entirely my territory(just the strategic part of it)So I would ask our foreign minister and our expansion minister to give me their vote of confidence.
    (ie post here and say=> ok with me you have a go or No way with me,don't you dare even thinking about it.)

    To get this resolution through the voting will go like this
    ==> the citizens vote
    --> If I get a 50% pro we go to the second move:
    at least 2 out of 3 votes:
    1 vote= citizens(>=50% ==1vote pro)
    1 vote for the each of the 2 ministers(foreign 1 vote, expansion 1 vote)
    (I hope this is clear)

    You all have 48h to vote

    Here you have the screenshot.
    As you can see they get locked on the north of the city.
    (btw if there were to be already cities to the south the will be easy to take over since they can't get millitary support from the main part of the Roman empire+ they most probably won't be founded that long)Only units with a ignore ZOC could theoretically pass but we will see them(and with a few diplo's we can even "convince them to fight on the right side"

    the only thing we have to bare in mind is happiness=> maybe we should start builing a happiness wonder(HG) or start a wonder to change it when we have the possibility to build Mikes...this could save us a lot of valuable time...(but that's the job of the cityplanner to convince all of you about that.)

            The screenshot you have are all the Roman cities that are visible(and I don't want to cheat )but I'm quite sure there probably won't be or maybe just one when we get back with our settler and warrior/phalanx...I don't know but If there is one I ask the president to let me know as fast as possible so we can decide what to do with it=> "subvert"/KILL/just let it be?
            (I would then suggest to subvert,take it appart piece by piece and do whatever we find appropriate )

            Screenshot is up with the second poll.

                    I voted NO. If we build that damned city, we're going to be attacked by the Roman faster that you can spell anticonstitutionaly!
                    What could you expect, if you're confining the Romans to a little square?

                        let's see:
                        A-N-T-I-C-O-N-T-I-T-U-T-O-N-A-L-Y
                        oeps,again...
                        A-N-T-I-C-O-N-T-I-T-U-T-I-O-N-A-L-Y

                        Darn again,and this time I'll get i right:
                        A-N-T-I-C-O-N-S-T-I-T-U-T-I-O-N-A-L-Y

                        You see I already spelled it and they didn't backstabe us yet

                        But it is easier to keep them confined by just defending and watching their bodies pille up against the citywalls then containing an empire with way to much possibilities to spread like a disease.
                        Like shade wouldn't know this...
                        I know this(and everyone does) but I just expect them to wait long enough to get a true Fort there wich no-one could ever take.

                        Itd be ok I guess
                        thanks for the vote of confidence.

                          Nothing succeeds against an AI like giving them an annoying immovable object to waste their offensive units on. In fact, as soon as we have the ability, add a pikesman and an archer. Then change the terrain to hills or even mountain if the surrounding terrain will support the city. The Romans will be using up catapaults on it to no effect for millenia

                            Unfortunately, we need Explosives to turn city terrain into hills or mountains (and even then IIRC we can't make mountains!)
