I suggest that all people who wish to be the first president nominate and we have polls to decide who wins , if only 5-6 people nominate we only need one poll but more would need more polls .
Once we have a president he can then nominate people for other positions eg foriegn minister, science minister etc, then have polls to ellect these people.

*also make it only possible for 1 person to have 1 task.(so make it impossible to be and minister of defence and trade)

*Important decisions have to be made by the ppl(not our senate,or whatever it will be called)since we are a democracy.Ministers can only give the options and their recomandations(sp?).
*->decisions of the ppl may only be overrulled by senate with absolute majority(all ministers+president -1)
(eg the ppl want war but it really isn't a good time it can be delayed that way)

*Fatigue:since their will be re-elections,it might be usefull to put a max to the nr of turns you may get ellected in a row.(eg max 4 times would mean: be minister of finance first and second turn ,then sience and then president.then you have to stay out one electionturn and then you can get back in)
(this is if there are enough volunteers for the job)

Should there be a standard number of turns between polls (eg: 5) with the ability to call emergency sessions?

Maybe setting research and build option lines and vote on those (eg: "go for Monarchy", "Warrior, Horseman, Settler, Temple,...)

Maybe we could notify the proletariat of impending polls via e-mail, or have set dates for voting, to maximise voters yet minimise time cruising the forum looking for action.

Succession games worked well with 20 turn turns, maybe that's a good time to use as a president's term. Polls should be frequent - as the realm expands, more and more cities will need attention each turn.

I like Shade's ideas. The ministers will need to plug their views to get their way. E.g. we need to maximize arrows in the cities so that we can discover a tech in so many turns!

How about votes of no confidence
ie, the Evil Mongols take our capital city, and our leader is not demonstrating inherent leadership qualities, would not we be able to remove him?

20 turns should work. Also, we need a maximum length of time in which to vote and in which ministers may present their proposals or ideas.

The president should also have veto power over the Senate probably.

How large is the senate going to be? everyone who is not a minister/president?
