  • This is amazing

    WOW, I am surprised by the tenacity of our once small and frail empire. I retired just after our first settlers were able to go abroad and build Uticia, and now we are in a space race.

    It is interesting to read the "tale of the years" and see the growth from a fledgling republic with trade and growth in their hearts, to an amassing power.

    Frankly I am also surprised to see this game still in motion, I expected to open the forum with DEMO GAME 5 at the header.

    Great leaders I solute you.

    Yeah, we're still hanging in there. Ben Kenobi gets a lot of credit for getting us playing again before he had to leave on a mission. Monk has done a lot, too.

    You are welcome to D/L RJM's 1920 save and play to 1930 yourself, BTW. We an use all the versions we can get. We are still in for a hard struggle.

      Yes please do down load the 1920 save and play 10 turns - it would be good to have more choices. We have reached an interesting point in the game and taken me into areas I didn't know about. For example I didn't realise that you could capture an enemy capital without brining the space ship back to earth - but that's what happened earlier in this game.

      The 1920 save has a few interesting points. We are at war on 3 fronts:

      a) with the Egyptians who are reduced to a single city and can be eliminated whenever we choose (or kept as a zoo civ);

      b) with the Celts where there is currently a cease fire and we have a precarious couple of cities;

      c) with the Zulus from whom we have taken about 6 cities to give us a fairly firm position on their homeland - I suspect we will also have to do battle with the Vikings who are the other fragmented part of the Zulu empire.

      There is also a problem with pollution which needs a lot of engineers to keep it under control.

      Another big question is whether to attempt to win by AC landing, or simply smash the AI - I think landing will be a quicker and simpler option.

      Enjoy,

          I'm not sure whether you are surprised how well we are doing, or how badly we are doing.

          If you think we are doing badly, perhaps you are not aware of the handicap we gave ourselves. We started on an island a long way from anywhere and we did not build our second city until 1790. By way of comparison, the Zulus built the UN in 1778.

          If you are surprised how well we are doing, I must say I agree with you. There were some pretty impressive turns around 1900 by Monk in particular which turned the game around for us to the point where I believe we can actually win it.
