First--I incorporate my remarks in the "New Start" thread.
Second--My vote is for an unlisted alt-choice: Don't openly use Nuks first until it suits us.
Actually, I would prefer we stop with the f'ing rules and finish this beast. Enough with the restrictions.
For what it is worth, I am becoming encouraged about our prospects. A few timely breaks is all we need. "Perseverance furthers" as the sage advised.

Actually, the poll was as much to do with seeing how many people are still interested in the game as it was to do with establishing the rules (Don't you love the new Christmas smilies?) It will probably be up to the individual player to decide during the game and then for the rest of us to vote on when we have to choose a save.
I too am encouraged that the game is winnable. However it will probably be a long slog against the Zulu's who seem to be in a very strong position. Not my sort of game at all. We probably need someone like La Fayette who (in the Silly Rules game) managed to roll up a large civilization that had established an extensive railroad network very quickly.
I'll try to look at Monk's 1904 save over the weekend. Like Monk, I encourage others to take us forward to 1904 so that there is a wide selection from which to choose the "better ball".

This is not my game at all. The very things that are required are the things I have no interest in. I have no desire to know how to trick the AI into declaring war, how to squeeze bribes or techs from it, etc. IOW, I will not play this game further.
What is required to win this game does not interest me.
Have fun, kill the AI, and I hope for the best for you. I will honor you if you succeed!
But I can't really connect with this game anymore. I'll watch, but I won't play.Civ2 Demo Game #1 City-Planner, President, Historian

So, what would tempt you back into this game? If we can bring the Zulu bird back to earth, our own AC landing is possible. After capturing Zimbabwe we could declare that we have no further teritorial ambitions - the AI wouldn't recognise the irony.
I think the game is more likely to finish if we can attract more players. Would you accept a cabinet post? For example you could be city planner. You could take a save and then optimise the workers, etc. Let's try to find something that would persuade you to be active.

cavebear,
What exactly is your game, anyway?? This last from you is incomprehensible. "Death before Dishonor" seems a bit much, not that playing within the rules--of the game-- is dishonorable. How did you think we could win?? It is just a game, after all.
What has happened to you?? I remember you saying earlier that you were a "romp and stomp" kind of guy. Must have been some other guy.

Assuming Monk didn't vote in this poll, we have 6 people who remain interested, but only 2 who have played the latest save. Is there sufficient interest to continue with this brave attempt to revive the game?
It would be a shame if the game is dropped, because both Monk and I believe that despite the set backs, the game cane be won. But do we have the perseverance to do it?

But I am NOT experienced at things like spies carries nukes, sabotaging SS, stealing specific techs, or intimadating AI civs into declaring war or giving tribute.
That doesn't mean I disrespect the ability to do those things; I will be watching this game intently to learn more about those aspects of the game. I try to learn constantly.
But it does mean that I cannot do much anything useful in the game. The requirements to win now are precisely those things I do not understand well. Any advice I give would be either contra-productive or embarassingly ingnorant. I'm not willing to do either.
This game, as it stands, requires different skills than I have.

cb,
That's fair, and I wasn't meaning anything harsh. It's just that the original purpose of this game was to create a very clear challenge. Now that the true dimensions of that challenge have come to the fore, folk are dropping out. Who among us has seen a game like this one?? I sure haven't. It is this kind of scenerio that provides a good learning opportunity. There is much to learn and I just wish I had more of a chance to play and am somewhat disappointed that others are letting it slide.
But it's all good...and, Happy New Year!!
