  • Consul's Summary of Game Situation 1863

    Last Session, we built 4 Settlers. 3 established new cities and 1 is building Road. 7 of the 9 Colony Cities are building Colosseums and 2 are building Temples. We need to decide what to change (if anything).

    Only Apolytonia and Utica have a defender. Partly this is because we had previously concluded we had no available units worth building in defense. However, we now have Crusaders and Musketeers.

    Our tech rate is 8 turns, which is not too bad but not great either. In addition, Apolytonia is a rich (and island) city and its Caravans bring considerable gold and bonus beakers with each Caravan. This aids in rush-building and tech research.

    We have gotten our gold balance under 100, so chance meetings with other civ units may offer an opportunity to buy advanced tech cheaper (than the Gunpowder). Gold earned from trade will be immediately used to complete city production items.

    We have some mutually exclusive desires to resolve. We want to build additional Settlers to establish new cities, but we also want to grow our cities to the point where they can celebrate to size 8, and we need at least Colosseums to do that. We want to keep our gold balance around 50, yet we also want enough gold to rush some city improvements.

    Apolytonia has a Caravel in port. It can wait for the Caravan being built (8 turns) or it can go exploring (4 turns out and 4 back) risking being sunk. We want to explore, but we also want to have Caravels available to transport Caravans.

    We need to resolve these competing desires before they cause "further" Citizen/Minister unhappiness and before your poor Consul loses his tiny conflicted mind trying to figure out what he should be doing (and when, I suppose).

    It also appears that I will be acting as City-Planner for the rest of June. I will post some relevent polls. I do NOT want to act as Science Minister; beyond the chart that came with the game, I know nothing about what techs become available. I hope someone will volunteer for that. Otherwise, when we complete Warrior Code (probably as soon as the Bead Caravel reaches a Celt city), I will have to make my best guess (and it may not be the majority choice).

    This is a scenario so all techs we have the pre-reqs for will be available.

    Was BM Science Minister too?
    Consul.

    Back to the ROOTS of addiction. My first missed poll!

        Amended to add that he still is (and City-Planner, too). I only posted some city polls thinking he had left, and I needed to know what the Citizens wanted to do in several areas.

        I invite Monk to simply give me direct unpolled advice on the next techs (we are sure to complete Warrior Code in only a few turns, and I need to know what next TWO to choose), based on his direct (elected) authority as Science Minister (no time for a full poll). I also welcome any advice on our cities beyond the subjects polled.

          Are you sure you want me to do this??

          Science Considerations

          I think the next list of offerred techs will have three new ones (Feud, Fe, and Metal)

          Chem-->Explosives (Engineers!!)
          Iron (Fe) Work--> Physics--> Magnets (Galleons!!)
          Wheel--> Engineering--> Sanitation (Sewers!!)
          Metal (Cannons and Coastal Forts)
          Feud, Physics, Theory of G are less interesting for NEXT

          There will be support of all four of the paths highlighted. Not wishing to give a kiss of death , I favor getting Engineers because I feel there is still much development ahead and combat engineers are one of my favorites.

          Good luck.

            If we are having an informal vote, I also support chemistry and explosives (for Engineers).

              (Monk) "Are you sure you want me to do this?? "

              Yes.

              I always favor Engineers! Chemistry and Explosives gets my support. While Musketeers are good, it's why I wanted Gunpowder.

                If there is no further discussion, I will go for Chemistry and Explosives in the next session. Thanks for the tech summary and advice, Honorable Minister of Science!

                  con mucho gusto, el jefe!!

                  For what it is worth I suggest Metal for a third, if it comes up. Apolytonia will need a coastal fortress.

                    and further, Metalurgy leads us to Conscription and Fundamentalism (with other techs along the way) so not a bad choice at all.

                    I like Physics personally as it brings us closer to Magnetism and Galleons (but this is as my third choice anyway which may be a moot point).

                        We would also need Banking and Democracy, though, correct? It would be nice to get to Fundy for our war effort.

                        What was your 2nd choice? My 2nd was to get to coastal forts. I have bad vibes everytime I think of a Cruiser pounding our cities followed by a TRansport of a e few land units. We would be so easy to destroy.

                            We have Banking already. The "other techs along the way" mentioned by SH would include Democracy...(also, Wheel, Eng'r, Invent). Fundy would be nice though.

                            Good luck with your gameplay. I suspect we will need several more turnsets of "peaceful coexistence" before we are ready to come forth with more than camels. Here's hoping we get the space to develope.

                              Oops, I should have checked about Banking! I'm so used to having built anything I can (at least *somewhere*) I forgot we had it. We don't even have one in Apolytonia (and we should)! I should try to build one.
