  • Poll: City Planner '36

This is a multiple choice poll. Please vote for one from 'A' and one from 'B'.

    A) Should we press the ICS path or reset the colonies to other build choices??
    B) Should cities work food or shield tiles??

I think we need many more cities as soon as possible. If a settler can be popped out before or close to size two, make a settler before temple until the first citizen is a redhead, about nine cities worth, IIRC.

If we get maps or our location is discovered, we will need to build some garrison units, but I would take a chance for now and conscentrate on settlers.

I mentioned in another thread building canal cities and fillins between existing cities.
One road, at most, then build. Improve terrain can wait. Is it possible to spit out a settler, either by working trees and/or rushing at the end, before building the temple?? More cities faster is the need right now, I think.
WHERE to build is the question...

Blackclicking reveals a vast inland sea or ocean below the new peninsula. I recommend building canal cities that will allow more freedom of movement for our boats.
    1) One such city site is next to the new settler at (95,95).

    2) A two city canal possibility is the grass at (84,96) and the second at (86,100).

    3) Depending what exploring turns up, fill in other cities, with some overlap to end up with a ball of production. Closer together is better logistically than widely spread out.
Also, let's rehome our boats and explorers to various cities so none are suffering from having more than one such unit afield.

I adjusted the first city poll before I saw this one, so since this one is inclusive and multiple, I will just go ahead and close the first one.

Actually the closed poll had a more generic kind of question: What should our settlers do?? I think I will redo that poll with just the 'A' questions.

Although I voted for continued settler building, this was not a vote for a full blown ICS strategy. I believe we should build new cities as fast as we can while we have available land. However, I don't think we should cram them in as tightly as the game will allow. I support some infrastructure development - roads and irrigation, together with at least a temple. Once we are able to capture an AI city or two, the need for expansion via new city founding will diminish very quickly.

This is pretty much what I had in mind; a modified ICS, with limited overlap of cities, allowing size 7-8 and 7-10 shields.

Limited city overlap is OK. I do that ocassionally with some Specials that I can't always use all the time in one city. Gives me the chance to keep them in use between 2 cities. But I generally want to find a good spot and not share Specials.

Generally, yes, I do too. But what about THIS game. Isn't it getting a bit late to fully develope sites in the normal way??

Exactly, which is why I will not object to overlapping Specials for muliple city use. We need to use everthing we can to pull this gave out.

Okay, good, we are on the same page or close enough. I begin to see the value of demo games to refine ones thinking on matters that are usually skimmed over in ones mind.

Although I was away at a Nuke reactor in Oz for the total duration of the poll (isn't that COOL?! ), I will post my vote now (I was bound to be late anyway).

More settlers sounds like a plan, as long as we have somwhere for them to go, or some terrain for them to improve. A MCS like in the map posted elsewhere is exactly what I think we should go for, so we should also aim to get cities to 3-5 pop and then go for the shields for Caravans etc.
