  • Nominations for June Term

It is time to announce your intentions/willingness to run for an office next term. There are few enough of us at the moment that we probably have to consider allowing multiple positions (and hoping that there is some competition for any of them).

In that regard, I hereby announce for City-Planner and Minister of Trade. I'm most comfortable with City-Planner, and I can at least keep track of what cities supply and demand which goods and where our Caravans are.

    Civ2 Demo Game #1 City-Planner, President, Historian
Civ2 Demo Game #2 Minister of War,President, Minister of Trade, Vice President, City-Planner
Civ2 Demo Game #3 President, Minister of War, President
    Civ2 Demo Game #4 Despot, City-Planner, Consul

I will go for Foreign Affairs Guy at least, although I wanted Trade Supremo as well. I could do Consul again if no-one better volunteers.
    Consul.

I would suggest that you run for Trade then, it would be good to see a contested election.

And if you were both running for another position, there would be no one left out regardless of the outcome.

Btw, I nominate Bloody Monk for Consul (I know he hasn't posted here, but I have encouraged him to check out the game and think he would be a great addition to the game). Besides, I think he would be some much needed new "Blood" around here (pun intended ).

I suppose if there was no-one else I could fill the SMC's shoes too, seeing as there is little to do there as well (lest we court suicide).
          Consul.

              LOL, our fearless leader!!

Depending on the form of Government, the elected Leader (the person who actually plays the game) is called by the position of whatever form of government we are currently in (and as we are currently in a republic...our leader is "Consul").

I have nominated you for Consul, and beleive you would be more then able to handle the role (basing your playing on the reports of the Ministers, and the results of the polls), and playing until you get to a point where a decision which has not been polled on needs to be made. If however you are not quite ready for Consul yet, you could put your name up for any of the Ministerial positions (self nominations are not only allowed, but encouraged), any of which I am certain you could handle.

Further Note: In this game unlike previous games, when we switch Governments, we require a new election (and likely though not necessarily) a new leader (but this should not come up for a few techs at least).

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Sparrowhawk, but, I just got here. I believe I should just hang for a while until I get a better feel for what's what. I haven't even figured out yet how many turns are being played in a set.

Ask and ye shal receive 10 turns per session.

Welcome, Bloody Monk. All your thoughts and opinions are welcomed. I would be particularly interested in any info/threads bumped on ICS, Hut finding, this "black-clicking" you mentioned, and other things. I joined this game over 2 years ago to learn how to be better at Civ2, and although I have learned much (Xinning, use of Caravans), there is much I have yet to master.
                  Consul.

Understood Bloody Monk, but I hope you consider a Ministerial position, we are short on members right now, and at this point in the game anyone stepping up is a good thing (and most of the Ministeries have limited duties at this point in the game, so you should have time to catch up on proceedure without much difficulty).

btw, -Jrabbit was a regular on the last Democracy Game (and others I beleive, any chance you could similarly encourage him to rejoin us??)

ICS is in the GL - it is simply a strategy of building a lot of small cities with overlapping boundaries. To the perfectionists, any city with a boundary overlapping another city's boundary is ICS. More often the term is used for a game playing strategy where a large number of cities are actually built within the radius of another city (ie 2 tiles away).

Hut finder is a program developed by SGx that enables you to determine the location of huts and specials on the game map. The latest version came out a while back and is downloadable from (I think) the strategy thread. "Black clicking" is putting the cursor on an unexplored tile. You can then tell by the continent number whether it is land or ocean - it doesn't work for continent number 1.

The majority opinion is that hut finder and black clicking (and other dark arts) are acceptable. I hold the minority opinion that they are "contrary to the spirit of the game".

SG1's Hutfinder may indeed be an explotation that pushes the line. Blackclicking, on the other hand, uses information hidden in plain sight. Like using "Find City" to locate the general location (but in the black) of an AI WOW city, I think blackclicking is acceptable.

I noticed they were not being used and therefore I asked. What is the consenus??

Maybe blackclicking works differently on other (Mac) systems. I am running WinXP home.

To make this procedure work, for me, I right click on a black tile. The map co-ordinates are given plus a third number that represents the continent. In this scheme, water is #1, as is the main land mass.

In our case, right clicking in vectors away from the home island will result in 1's until land is reached. Different numbers represent different (non-contiguous) land masses.

In case you want to try this out....

I've been looking for this in my files since this morning because a picture is worth a thousand words, right?? This is a v2.42 save from the ICS master, DaveV. Enjoy...

I think it may be game version dependent as well as O/S dependent. In my version of 2.42 running on XP you can simply use the arrow keys to move the highlighted tile and thus get the continent number. In my version of MGE, you can't use the arrow key, but you can sometimes left-click and allways right click.

That is, in theory how you would do it on my machine. I don't ever really do it of course. To do so would be wicked and I would go straight to hell. It's just that sometimes my finger slips.

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. Forgive me father for I have sinned.
