  • 1768 - 1792 AD Our 2nd City!

1768 - Apolytonia is size 11 again, so start to celebrate. Partly rush Caravel.

1770 - Size 12 acheived, set to Xin.

1772 - Caravel completed, start Settler. The AS Sparrowhawk departs SE with 2 Settlers aboard. Set to non-Xin.

1774 - AS Sparrowhawk moves SE. Set to Xin.

1776 - AS Sparrowhawk moves further SE. Set to non-Xin.

1778 - Celts build Mike's. Zulus build UN. Caravel finds land and starts looking for good city-site. University 1/2 researched. Set to Xin.

1780 - AS Sparrowhawk finds Egyptian city "Killdeer" (must have been taken from Sioux). Bad news to find not only a city, but 1 near 2 civs. Caravel heads west. Set to non-Xin.

1782 - AS Sparrowhawk searches shore SW. Set to Xin.

1784 - AS Sparrowhawk moves west. Set to non-Xin.

1786 - Build Settler, so start celebration again. Start Phalanx.

1788 - Celebration! Discover University, so start "Banking" (the scientists promise that it will somehow increase our wealth). Find a decent spot to build a city. I've been hoping for Whales, but will take Fish.

1790 - Tip hut and get a None Fanatic. Establish city of "Utica". Send Fanatic to Utica for defense. Change Utica Phalanx to Temple.

1792 - Apolytonia size 12 again. Set to Xin. Fanatic reveals some Utica squares on way to new city.

Looks good to me (University will make our Scientists very happy).

I assume that Apolytonia will not complete that Phalanx? (another Caravel perhaps, another Settlers or another Caravan would all be better choices as far as I am concerned....but I understand that you didn't have a city planner poll to follow )

What about having the Settlers on that boat move onto land now and establish our third city? It seems we are so far behind now that we need to establish our cities ASAP so Fish are fine as far as I can tell. That way the Caravel could return home and either pick up more settlers for more cities or some caravan to trade...with Kildeer or other cities.

Looks like we are finally getting somewhere though

My thought on the Phalanx was that we are more likely to have Apolytonia attacked now that we have a 2nd city; single city Capitals tend to be left alone. Also, I thought it would be good to send a defender out with our next Settler.

I also thought to go for a unit since it seemed to me any unit would be more appropiate than a city infrastructure. I had no guidance on that from our Minister of Everything Else, so I made a strategic guess on what the Citizenry might want. Units seemed the most likely. We can always use Settlers to establish new cities.

For the situation of the Caravel and the remaining Settler(None), I think that is a matter for the City-Planner to poll on (City-planner being both responsible for existing cities and new ones in this limited Cabinet in my opinion). I am relatively in favor of establishing a 3rd city about where the Caravel is now, but would like some guidance on that.

I would like to get the Caravel back to Apolytonia ASAP to either transport Caravans to rich large AI civ cities or transport the new Settler and a defender to a new 4th city site. Both have advantages. A new city is good, but gold/trade would help too and we have Caravans ready to go.

I've been juggling our gold, tax rate, happiness and science for the past 2 sessions and not getting ahead in any of them very much. Celebration and Xinning has helped a lot, but we are advancing very slowly otherwise.

I think we need Spies badly, since we have forbidden ourselves Diplomats. We need to steal a lot of tech. We nned more cities (and we are progressing on that). We need gold through trade (and will soon make progress on that).

I was relieved to see a hut to tip, as that suggests we have found some unexplored and unsettled territory. Good locations for small growing cities.

                  Yes, ah, sorry about that.

I have just done a zillion polls (with a few more to come), and I am finding it a bit tougher than before. I am essentially setting a limited number of policies to go by, in half a dozen polls! The former is fine, but I will certainly have some repeated options or options that overlap between polls....

Do me a favour, guys, and POST when you vote, so we can thrash out some concrete ideas to supplement my broad polls.

There were rather a lot of polls this time around. How about a posting that gives an analysis and recommendation together with an I agree, I disagree because ... , I couldn't give a banana poll?

Sorry about that - I realised partway through that there were going to be too many polls, and all a bit disjointed as well. I was rushing to get SOME polls up in the little bit of free time I had. I hope next time to do just as you say - a general recommendation or two for each city etc and then options of "Agree", "Disagree", "Write-in different idea" or "What in the blue Banana are you talking about?".

                      Sound better?

If nothing else I would like to see one of the caravans or the other setler explore between Killdeer and Uticia, to see if there is a "choke point" that we could take advantage of to keep the sioux or Egyptians at bay while we build up in this new found region.

Also another caravel would be good to search north and west, as those were the directions taken by the white boats seen during my turns.

Well your polls seem to have generated more activity in 24 hours than we had in the previous week, so that's a good result.

We have now reached the point where there is serious tension between the different strategic objectives that we must achieve in order to win the game. This is where it gets interesting.
