I though t we could use a thread to discuss the games direction and any proposal for our next moves.
Please post with any suggestiions and comments.

I think we should stop the Xinning and start major science and settler production to have a caravel full of settlers in 10 turns.

Also i want a aqueduct made of gold and 6 caravans for a wonder. That should take us to 20 turns right

OK seriously, we are on the right track with Xinning and I DO think settlers would be a good unit to build so that we can more quickly get our second city to a size 3 for celebrations.

The way I see it is we can Build a Size 1 city and wait for the 10-15 turns it will take to grow to size 2, or we can build a size 2 city and wait 10-15 turns to get size three then celebrate for a +1 each turn until size 8. At that point we should be able to build settlers in both Apolytonia and the new city to repeat this process somewhere else. three new, coastal, size 6-8 cities in 25-30 turns would be most welcome IMHO.

the only way I see of catcing the AI is to ICS for a while and then Take the new cities by force. (Fundy???)

If we *can* celebrate, that would be an efficient way to grow our cities. I'm not sure we can both Xin in the new cities and celebrate at the same time though.

We certainly can't grow by celebrating while Xining. I believe we should grow wherever possible. Xining is useful to increase short term tax or research at some points in the game, but in the longer term growth is better.

Settlers will be great, but I think we should have just one and two military units (one defense, one exploration) first up until we find some land, then go back and pick up more settlers.

            After reviewing the .sav file;

Without temples and market places in the new city it will be difficult to celebrate beyond 4 or 5 and celebrating to 8 may be impossible with no wonders.

I still think Xinning is the only way we have a chance of a decent discovery rate, but we also have an island capitol that could become a late game SSC with a good delivery bonus.

I would like us to stop Xinning now and celebrate to size 12 in our city, then return to Xinning (I think with a 0 Tax, 50 Science and 50 Luxury rate while not Xinning we will get to Navigation faster) but I am far from an expert on Xinning, and would prefer it is someone who knew what they were talking about (not me in other words ) spoke on this.

The more I look at this, the more sense it makes to me.
Currently at 60 Tax, 20 Science and 20 Luxury, we are getting 36 Science Beakers on Xin turns (assuming that we are changing all workers to science specialist on Xin turns), and 6 Science Beakers on Non-Xin turns (Average 21 beakers per turn).

If we change to 0 Tax, 50 Science and 50 Luxuries, we will start celebrating, and with our city maxxed for Science (we are currently building a barracks which we don't immediately need) so our workers could work ocean squares rather hten land, and further create two scientists (no food shortage) we would have science of 25 beakers per turn. This is without taking into consideration the additional citizens, who would help to increase this rate.

I think the math is simple for the 5 or less turns it would take us to max our city size (through celebrations) as soon as celebrations ended we would need to figure out if the benefits of returning to xinning are worth it or not.

The only downsides are taht we would use gold in support (0/50/50 results in -9 gold per turn) but we have 250 gold right now and nothing to spend it on, and that we would not produce as much, but as we are building a barracks right now which won't be immediately used I don't see this as a factor.

I don't understand any of it, but I think we should go for it.

Is that 25bpt after growth, or from the turn that we embark on this path? If the latter this is certainly worth it right away, as currently we earn 36 + 6 = 42beakers every two turns, whereas in this plan we are instantly on 2 x 25 = 50 beakers every two turns, until we reach pop 12, and then our Xinning would be even more effective than now!

the 25 beakers per turn is what we could be getting now at our current size, what we would gain by growing I don't know, because I don't know if we could grow to size 12 at 50% luxuries, but regardless, even if we were only able to grow some smaller amount, the additional beakers would be gravy anyhow (it would still be worth it)

I think Sparrowhawk makes a good point. I will try it out this session. Besides, while I understand the basic concept of Xinning, I am not very comfortable with it.

I will be playing the session now, using the best information from the polls and posts.
