  • Question of moderator authority:

Just curious, are mods and/or admins allowed to read PMs between poly users - even if there are no complaints involved in the matter?

    Do they?

Thanks for the top job, you crazy guys!

I don't think it's even possible for them to do that, even if they wanted to.

None of the other mods/admin have ever done so to the best of my knowledge.

I've done it once. And that was with permission of the user (basically at his command) to prove a point in a dispute.

It would be a gross violation of our authority to do so unless some situation really warrented it.

They are called Private Messages for a reason...

IIRC the time MIng rfefers to was when EVC gave Horsie his password and Ming got permission from both individuals to check some PMs to confirm Horsie was telling the truth about his side of affairs. IIRC it saved Horsie from a permaban...

If they have admin powers and can access your password, it is possible.

Actually Taz... to be honest, I did not have EVC's permission. AH gave me permission to access HIS account and that was the only account I looked at.

Some might argue that since it was EVC's PM, I needed his permission as well... However, in my opinion, EVC gave up any rights he had when he handed his account over to another person.

As you can see... it took a very rare situation for the event to happen

Oh well, my first "senior" moment.

Nevermind, I got most of it right!

Are you even old enough to have senior moments...

I thought those only happened to old folks, like me and rah

Oh darn. They can read our PMs?!? There goes my conspiracy to overthrow the right-wing American-Apolyton corporate dictatorship.

When I saw a Zylka thread about moderator authority I thought fireworks would be flying.
