How do you distinguish a drunk thread from a mad ranting with bad spelling thread?

Not that it makes much difference, but at least the drunk has a better excuse.

The "mad ranting" threads usually just get deleted or closed the minute I see them, even if the poster appears drunk. The assumption of the poster being drunk may only effect the sentence he gets

I haven't noticed any tightening up of the moderation in the OT... but then I haven't visited this site in the last few days. I guess that when the war breaks out there will be a lot of work for the mods to do...
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

What about happy rantings? I tend to be a lovey-dovey drunk.

            From my earlier post...

When it comes to drunk threads... here are the general rules of thumb I follow...

First... as long as the drunken poster limits his posting to just that thread, and doesn't start spamming/disrupting other threads, I leave the thread open and take no action against the poster. If the person goes crazy in other threads, in most cases, I just restrict the poster until he has had a chance to sleep it off... unless his actions deserve a longer restriction.

Next... If the thread goes overboard, I delete it or close it with a warning...

Last... When it looks like the drunken poster has passed out or has stopped posting, I close the thread.

Obviously, this all assumes I see the thread
So happy drunks are usually ok

To me the OT has eased tremendously. I used to lose maybe 8 out of 10 threads to closures or deletion, or worse, now maybe 2 out of 10. I used to have POSTS deleted!

It's as if a personal vendetta has ended, I guess because one has.

I'm actually enjoying the OT again!

              Long may it last.

It would be great if these threads were left open so the drunken poster could revisit it and provide commentary when they are sober again.

These threads never get any closure.

I think particularly embarrassing drunk threads should be locked and then topped so that the poster can see them when he returns and is sober.

And add flashing arrows pointing to it, too, if possible!

I guess I set myself up for that.

You what I mean. I feel like I never get the end of the story. People rarely start "I'm sober again" threads.

That's exactly why they should stay open. I want to know how they feel about their post, or offer apologies, or whatever.

Ming is singlehandedly destroying my philosphical inquiry in the nature of drunkenness.
