  • Automatic linking

Whenever somebody types SC3000 into one of their posts the text is automatically converted to a link.

The reason for this is obvious I suppose:
more links from 'poly = more buys from Amazon = more money for 'poly and Amazon.

However, why does it work for the abbreviation of SimCity3000 and not for more appropriate Apolyton games such as Civ3, PtW, MOO3, CtP2, GalCiv etc etc....?

What other games have this weird auto-linking thingy?

Amazing! I see for Apolyton! But why it doesn't work for civ games, is a very good question...

Interestingly (or perhaps not ) the auto-linking doesn't work if you type sc3000 - just if you capitalise the letters.

        Test:
Can it pick the text out of a string? .... blahblahSC3000blahblah

        /edit: Apparently so.

it's just a small experiment i did a week ago
i havent expanded it further, especially with far more frequent words like "civ3", as it could conflict with other links in a post, etc....

you mean the fact that I was the first to find it out? I agree.

Markos brings up a good point, what would happen with more often mentioned games such as Civ III or SMAC or RoN? Which games should be included in this fundraising move?

Isn't it common for well known sites to enter into deals with software companies? Sometimes IIRC you can even pre-order from the site at a small discount.

Such a plan if applied to more games would raise some money for Apolyton......I suppose that's the plan anyway.
