  • SPF temporarily rejects all new registrations

This is an official announcement that the Stella Polaris Forums do not accept any new user account registrations for the moment, as a temporary precaution after the forums were today attacked by a wave of spam by a forum spam robot which has been attempting to send messages for the past 3 hours (it's still contnuing to automatically submit new messages). The administration of Stella Polaris Forums appologies this inconvinience, but it's necessary to protect the fora from new robot generated registrations and a continued flood of spam (so far over 100 messages deleted, which were sent between 1300-1400 GMT, which after the account was deleted and the IP was banned). This will be a temporary measure to prevent it from switching the used IP address, as there's no other way to stop it for sure. Normal operations will continue and new registrations will be accepted as the antirobotic registration script has been installed. This will be done ASAP or by Monday.

Do notice that current account holders may continue to use the fora as usually.

Thanks very much for your patience!

    Regards,
    Rasbelin

Isn't it just incredible what some losers do to make themselves seen...?

Sorry to hear that you have such problems. Hope you soon get it allright again!

Indeed. The catch was this time to get the visitors interested in checking out the provided link for "amateur n4ked b4bes" (i.e. p0rn) and as the link included a referral code, the owner of the code would benefit from it by people paying for the adult websites services. Sad, but true. CGN was also attacked by this same spambot.

However I'm right now implementing the antirobotic protection, so we might return to normal operations today.

Well, at least the number of spam attacks can be viewed as a measure of forum popularity.

Thanks for fixing the forums up, Ras.

Yeah, and I think it is horrible how all this porn is flowing freely around... The Internet is a very free thing and was/is supposed to be so, but I think it is time that the providers do something! Not that it's likely to happen, though... Then all those pigs watching shild porn and such has to disappear I guess.

Nikolai, I read somewhere that porn only accounts for about 5% (maybe less) of all internet sites, but that porn searches are a much larger percent of all searches (I wanna say somewhere over 50% but I'm not sure).

                      Mitch,

ACS doesn't seem to have any protection against automatic posting, AFAIK. That part seems to be done by the moderators (especially Ming) as they remove the messages and permanently ban the spam sources (the accounts used and/or IP addresses).

                      HT,

I couldn't find any problems with your account. Please send a PM in the case the problems continue.

Well done for catching it before too much damage was done. Hope you sort everything out soon.

ACS requires one minute to pass (I don't know if that is a full 60 seconds, or just that the minute counter advances) before allowing a user to post another message. That helps defeat some robot scripts.
