You need to download the necessary Java runtime files in order to be able run the Java coded web based IRC client applet that Poly uses. Usually MSIE suggest to download Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine, but as you have most likely turned the automatical downloads off, it won't prompt for that. However I always recommedn the use of Sun's native Java 2 JRE for any browsers as that ensures the best compatibility with Java.
Follow these instructions...
1. Go to the download section of the official Java website. Click here.
2. Look for the download shown in the screenshot and click on the "DOWNLOAD" link.
3. Scroll down the page and click "ACCEPT" in order to confirm that you agree to accept the license for using the software.
4. Now click on the link "Download j2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586.exe."
5. When the download is complete, close all browser windows.
6. Go to the folder in which you saved the installation package. Double click it and follow the instructions.
If this didn't work, the problem is elsewhere.

a similar problem a while back is fixed with an update from microsoft , there are several people who had had the problem in Denmark because of an unpatched version that the ISP gave to its clients
