Well, I registered and the email was sent correctly. Are you sure your email address was typed correctly?
Thats the only thing I can think of off-hand.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Mark, I got that too. NickServ told me it was going to send me an e-mail to confirm the registration, but I never got it, and if I try to reregister my nick it tells me the nick is already in use . As for the address, I double checked, and the one it said I used was correct. (I got the same msg Eli did, basically).
Hope this helps you track down the bug...

It all worked fine for me, confirmation message and all.
Just one thing, when I first connected #apolyton wasn't on the channel list. The C3DG one was there, though. I've added it myself, but I just thought it odd that the main channel wasn't listed
The channels are stored but unless people are in them they're not active. You could, plausibly, just /JOIN a randomly-named ad hoc channel without registering it and it would be listed, but #apolyton wouldn't be if no-one was in it that session...
Right now I /JOINed a totally random channel, #MarkG-Should-Be-Killed, and indeed it immediately becomes listed. If I leave and don't register it, though, it'll be lost, unlike say, #counterglow.
OK Mark... I have finally given up putting it off - time to test out a Civ3 Democracy game chat in this magical room of yours. I am testing it now, or rather attempting to.
The FAQ says I should connect to a random EU or US DALnet server, but I have been watching it try to connect to either of these for 10 minutes or more.
It keeps saying
"Unable to connect (Can't assign requested address) "
and retrying. Over and over and over. I try to connect to an Undernet server I used for the chat earlier today and it works. What gives? Maybe this means that the servers are ALL busy? (I don't know IRC very well) Can anyone help? If we are to hold chats there, we need the President to be able to get in there!
if you didnt notice(from the announcements, the news items, this very thread), the whole issue is that we have our own server, e.g. you should connect on apolyton.net as is described in the "connect via irc" page http://apolyton.net/misc/chat/irc.shtml and is obvious in the "java chat room" page http://apolyton.net/misc/chat/room.shtml
Blame me for the outdated FAQ. The new one should be available later this week when I have time to make it, but Markos already pretty much answered your question.
One sidenote. The IRC server can also be accessed at settler.apolyton.net if that's easier for you to remember.
