If I have reported a thread to a mod, will I get a response as to whether the post was out of order or acceptable.
Is no respnse an indication that it is considered ok.
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

I don't think they'll respond in any other way than closing the thread/warning the poster. If they don't do that after a long period of time, I guess you could assume it's ok.
So is it better to PM rather than using the report post function

The virtue of the report post to moderator function is that it automatically include links to the threa nd to the post.

It doesn't really matter if you report something via PM or the report post to mod button. (but if you use a PM, please include a link to what you are talking about)
In most cases, if a response is needed, we will make one. In some cases, you will see that action has been taken (like a closed or deleted thread/post, or a warning, or a restriction announced) In other cases, you may not see anything because a PM was sent to the Offender warning him about such actions.
And in other cases, I just tally up the complaints against people because they are minor infractions... and when they start adding up, then I take action.
So no... no response doesn't mean it's OK. You do have to understand that we do get TONS of complaints.
I view EVERY ONE of them, and classify them accordingly, and take action when required. However, I really don't have time to respond to each individual complaint. I do so when I feel it's warrented. (and PM's usually get more responses than the automated email complaints)
TheStinger... in regards to your specific complaint earlier today, I took a look at it when I received it.
In a different context, the post you reported might have earned somebody a stay in Mingapulco. In this case, while what was said was indeed cruel, I took a look at "intent" as well, and didn't seem as bad when viewed in that light and in terms of total context of the thread. However, it did indeed add another check next to the posters name and a warning...
I hope this answers the overall question as well as your specific one.

Thanks for the info

I always send a PM if I report a thread or post to a colleague as that's easier and you can be more specific. Maybe include additional information or refer to some other thread. I have never used the post reporting feature.

I reported those annoying dl's a couple of weeks ago. They weren't good dl's so I didn't feel bad for being a squeller.
That's a lie. I hate being a snitch . maybe if the moderators rewarded me for reporting threads
P.S. I never normally report threads. Only twice a few weeks ago. I never report offensive content because I cannot be offended. But I do report bad DL's. But I won't report good dl's.
I follow the advice in rah's sig. I rarely stoop to call somebody an idiot, and reporting a thread or a post would fall in the same category. The idiot in question seldom learns from the experience.
