(Hum... or maybe I haven't understand at all and you were not saying that the language specification would be bad because you can fake it )
Of course you can fake your IP as well, but to fake the language specification of your browser is much easier, just download the English version of Mozilla 1.1 by accident, and you should be fine prepared as an native English speaker from an English speaking contry. But here is the question from which contry. USA, UK, Australia... you can provide all the people from these countries with the same software, no chance to dicide who is from USA if one just rely on the local installed software.

Of course if you know how and if you have the will then you can fake everything. To fake the IP is just a little bit more difficuilt. Oh and if I improt my PC directly from an US store I would also fake, even if I don't want. But as it looks I can also fake, even if I don't have an US OS no US provider...

        new change

if you see that you get too many of the new banners that create pop-ups, you can now switch to the special styles.

these styles(which apply only to the forums) now carry apolyton-hosted banners and give a single pop-up every twelve hours.

Well Marcos so I far I don't see any progress, you still see the line under the top banner in Netscape 4.78 and still no banners in Opera.

And I found another problem that isn't anymore just an optical problem now I can't use the Apolyton Directory with Netscape 4.78 anymore it doesn't display the subcategories. I know that there wasn't any problem with it as the dir was new.

the netscape 4 issue is not solvable without breaking the ads in other browser

but i think now you should stop seeing the realmedia ads when you use t-dialin

May I ask a question too?

I am using the default-special style which means I'm getting one banner at the top of the page and the occasional popup. 5 minutes ago, I saw the "remove this banner" banner, which is supposed to be visible by only those who don't use a special style and see 2 banners and no popup. Shouldn't you remove it from the rotation of the first banner?

Btw, I loved the "Plush American Eagle" banner!

well it also targets those who have a special style and can move to an ultra special one

you CAN remove that banner too

Yeah that is the way as it is supposed, unfortunatly I can imagine that they are also active in the USA.

Yeah maybe I saw a ghost now it is displayed, correctly. Fact is that I my computer died bluely as I tryed to close all the windows afterwards.

I have Opera 6.4 (German version) installed. I still can't see them just a grey line instead of the banners. Maybe I should install Opera 6.5, too. The odd think is that I had at the beginning the problem in all browsers I have istalled. (Netscape 4.78, Netscape 6.2, IE 5.5 and Opera 6.04) They problem is gone accept in Opera, but as you can't reproduce I won't you bother you with this anymore.

So big thanks for all your efforts Markos.

                          Hey! These popups really suck!

All of a sudden I'm getting popups all over the place (even just to post this reply) - At the moment it seems to always be a popup for "Accuquote", but I don't know if that is the only one. I am using IE5 and the default styles which supposedly limit the number of these things to 1 per day, but we haven't shortened our days to 30 seconds as far as I know.

I like to use my "subscribed threads" view as a home page for my Apolyton browsing, but leaving that to view the latest post in any of the threads always leads to a popup. Most other ways of browsing also seem to do that as well, but I just thought I'd mention the one that TICKS ME OFF THE MOST.

The FAQ doesn't seem to explain what all the various styles are supposed to do; is there info somewhere else.

I hope that this is just a programming glitch and/or a rogue advertiser and will be temporary; otherwise I may be a lot more temporary user myself.

arghhh ... just to add more vote to ANNOYING banners... ok.. nice to read that I can kill them,

off to change to special style.

By the way, these pop ups are the worst form of advertising possible - those TV ads are good in comparison (and I really don't bother watching TV anymore really - ok I do a little )

but - auch... I had to let my opinion be known
