What's with the fake "edit post" errors?

Half the time I edit a post, I'll receive an error along the lines of "There was some kind of bloody error with your post editing, a message has been dispatched to the technical staff, please try again." Sometimes I'll get two or three of these things in a row.

Here's the thing I don't get: about three-quarters of the time I get these error messages, there really wasn't any error. My post got edited just fine and dandy, even though the program is telling me to try again.

I get these things too, although IIRC, the message is more like blaming it on a "database error" than a bloody error with my post editing and the frequency is more like 90-95% than half and three-quarters. It used to be that these messages were for real, so I'm reluctant to give up on retries and reretries, although in recent times it has never accepted a retry, always giving the same error - even if one were to open another window in the meanwhile and see that the post was actually there (and had even been edited).

Since I mostly edit posts right after I initially make them, I might have thought that the edit was coming in before the original post had been fully committed and so it couldn't find it, but that doesn't really explain why it would do the edit anyway (since it obviously found it if it was able to edit it - unless it just creates a new post with the edit if it can't find the original).

Just for the hell of it, I edited the post to see what would happen - this is edit 1 (if there are no additions, it went in OK).

i saw that error too. i kept pushing "retry, retry" for so long that i was about to give up until it just 'poof' worked . that was ~3 days ago. havn't seen it since

It depends. I rarely get them. That seems to have something to do with how busy the server is.
