  • Why no MIDI attachments?

Hey, why can't we post .mid attachments? They take up minimal space, and that way the more artisically-minded can share their music with others.

    I agree

MP3 should be an option too.

We often add recorded voices and stuff, and MP3 will allow better quality and longer files.

You can't possibly post illegal content in 500K

I'm too lazy to mess with mp3s most of the time.

      MIDIs would be great though.

It probably has to do with the script automatically opening it and Markos doesn't want us to have to deal with our browsers opening five different songs at once creating a headache for readers everywhere.

Maybe it's simpler than that. Maybe it's the fact that mp3's ARE USUALLY 4-5MB IN SIZE?

But wavs of the same length are 400-500 MB in size.

Allowing for attatched mp3's or midis will not cause them to automatically play (like attatched pictures are automatically displayed).

                  Its an extra (un-needed) step.

Mp3s are already compressed. Zipping, Rar-ring, whatever else compression methods you choose won't make a significant difference to it's size.

The question is why. MIDI maybe, but why would you want to attach MP3 files? Not like many 'Polytoners write their own music.

To post our voices, for one. Its smaller than .wavs of the same length.

That would make sense. You can always upload it elsewhere and link it. But that's probably to much of a hassle.

Currently we can attach wav files (which is what we were doing in the "What does your voice sound like" thread), but putting them in as mp3 would have saved so much server space, and reduced our downloading.
