This has been reported thouands of times... the easiest way out of that is using a hyphen as a first name. -

You could always enter your name as Colon Colon ... or Cookie Country ... if you want to protect your anonymity.
I'm not sure why they made this a requirement ... it took me ages to figure out why I couldn't edit my profile, despite it telling me on the error message screen... that's only 'cos I'm stupid, though.
