  • Problem with (CtP2) Search

I tried searching for 'MedMod' on the CtP2 forums and the oldest thread I got was of January 2002. The MedMod was already being discussed even before CtP2 was released so that can't be right. When I searched the same forums on posts made by me, it found all posts I ever made there. When I searched the Civ2 forums for 'space', I found threads going back to August 1999.

So why does the CtP2 search not work properly? Could it be that the CtP2 posts are not indexed properly or something?

you know part of the reasons for making people part of the staff is so that they stop posting about problems in public and do so pirvately so they can be ignored more effectively

now, when we moved off gamestats, we had to drop the search index due to huge size(it was bigger than the size of the posts!). on the temporary server we found out that re-indexing took ages to complete(so only some pre-jan 2002 threads are idnexed)

I'll remember it for next time...

WTF?! It took too long? These old posts are very, very important to modmakers (CtP1/2 modmakers at least), who cares how long it takes? You're upgrading anyway... Stuff that was posted in the CtP1/2 forums 3 years ago is still very relevant for CtP1/2 modmakers today. I dare say that, after SLIC, the forum search feature is one of the most powerful tools that CtP modmakers have... Since the server change I already had half a dozen people complaining about problems with the search and before we left Gamestats, I myself used the search feature almost every day...

Isn't there any way you can give us full search capabilities to those old posts after all? Re-index at least the CtP1/2 posts now or something (even just the CtP2-Creation posts would help a lot already)... The only solution I see is to bump all old threads, but I *really* don't want to do that...

(BTW, I checked and the only indexed forums are the Civ2 forums. You indexed the forums of a game that's almost history anyway! WTF?)

it's just that the civ2 threads are the oldest ones. the indexing started from thread 00001

lets see how our new server goes

its 15:34 and i've started an indexing of 1000 threads begining from thread #15000 (around the time of the oldest ctp2 thread. indexing per forum is not possible)

Bah... but old threads really are important to communities. Markos, take care of the CtP-MP archives. If any of those historical threads get lost, I'll kill you personally.

Great! Thanks Markos It's too bad it's so late now, otherwise if you would have told me how to do it, I would gladly have left my PC on all night and done it for you... (Heck, my PC is almost always on anyway and usually has a browser pointed to 'poly (flatfee subscribtions are the best thing since SLICed bread ), I could do it any time of the day )

                      Zealot,
LOL, some other time perhaps, don't need it anymore (and it's almost 2:30 AM right now)

btw, these are threads from ALL forums, not just the ctp ones
