    Give up on Gramphos, he went over to the dark side. He's 'one of them' now

        Fair warning: next "off-topic" post in this thread will result in this thread's closure. Let's get back "on-topic" here, folks...

            A = without
            poly = many
            ton = town

            thus, Apolyton = "without many town(s)" or "rural".

            Just curious, who came up with this forumla?
            *grumbles about work*

                Due to the large number of finns, it should be changed to:

                ÄSS = Äärimmäinen (ultimate) Sivilisaatio (civilisation) Sivusto (site)
                I'm not a complete idiot: some parts are still missing.

                  Thanks for the many replies! It's a little bad that none of the responders is greek or at least deeply familiar with that language.

                  apo = 'off' ('offbeat'?)
                  lytos = 'separated' 'solved'
                  Only in a very figured sense it can be translated with "ultimate", if at all.

                    Is that like:
                    Politics
                    poly: english preface for 'many'
                    tics: little things that spread diseases.
                    ?
                    Concrete, Abstract, or Squoingy?

                      If you've ever played Civ3 as the Greeks you've probably noticed that one of the city names is Apolyton. Is Apolyton the name of a Greek town or city in real life?
                      signature not visible until patch comes out.

                            At first Firaxis wanted to include a town called Civfanatics, but since that doesn't sound very Greek...

                            Anyways, the Apolyton question should be answered in the FAQ because it pops up more often than ME threads in the OT...
                            Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
                            And notifying the next of kin
                            Once again...
