It's up, it's down, it's up, it's down.

What's going on?

Heck,
Apolyton has been into dramastic changes recently, as can be read in about section, so some minor problems are expected to occour.

The "dramatic" changes happened months (or is it weeks?) ago.

There's no reason those changes would magically cause the system to go down for 2 days unless they're moving to yet another server, in which case it'd be nice if they notified us...

You guys are running a server without a UPS?

There are some that last hours (http://www.cablestogo.com/web_produc..._smart_ups.pdf )

But we still would have had downtime.

How come it took so long to turn on the server after the outage?

Why doesn't Apolyton run through a real service provider? When we did SidGames, we ran it through Bell. They had backup generators, so power outages never affected us. If the server had problems, they'd fix it within 24 hours. If the server crashed, they'd have it up again in a few hours, max.

As opposed to web hosting, colocation (having a company to look after your server) is expensive, usually in units of thousands of US dollars.

It's reasonable if that's a company website, esp. one for e-commerce. But for a gaming site? Let's be realistic.
