  • Apolyton has moved in Greece!

As you may or may not be aware, the GameStats News Network shutdown operations at the end of last month until further notice due to ongoing technical difficulties and rising costs. We only became aware of this last evening and had it confirmed earlier today. Apolyton, which since its inception has been an affiliate member, moved to temporary hosting accommodations in Greece effective January 4th. While this said re-location did not effect our affiliation with GS -- since the plan was to eventually return -- it was prompted by the 1 1/2 weeks the network was down over the Christmas holidays last December and into the New Year. It is not determined when or if GameStats will be re-launched or, even if it is, whether or not the services it once offered will be the same or at similar enough as they were to date so as to accomodate Apolyton`s current and future hosting needs.

At present, this site continues to remain online in full thanks to our gracious hosts. While there is no urgency to re-locate at this point, we are beginning to re-evaluate our options as, again, our current arrangement is only on a temporary albeit extended basis. Until such a time as we can find alternate and a more permanent hosting agreement, and keeping in mind the intention of GameStats` owners to bring it back online as soon as possible, we will remain an affiliate of the GS network. We will keep you apprised of our progress or lack thereof in the weeks to come. Your continued support and understanding is greatly appreciated.
We all know about Apolyton's moving to another server one month ago, but until now we didn't know what was the trouble with the old server and where Apolyton was moved. Until this announcement was issued by DanQ today.

I was supposing that Apolyton was moved into some American server. But learning that it might be hosted right next door to me has sent shivers down my spine and thoughts up to my head.

(Why did the administrators withold this information until now? ) Edit: hadn't noticed the first bold sentence above.

(What made them change their minds?) Ditto, though you should have told us about the new location of the server.

Who is currently hosting Apolyton and which is the servers exact location? Is it in Thessaloniki, Marko?

Does this move imply that Greek, Israeli and European posters in general will have quicker access to the site?

Or does redirecting through the Apolyton.net domain means that we are still viewing the forum through American cyberspace? This is important because some transatlantic connections are down sometimes.

If the second is true, could we as "neighbours" be convenienced with the server's "true" url?

Ooooh, I'd love to see the face of some of our american righties, when they learn that Apolyton is in OUR hands!

When was that? When I can't connect, I can't really tell where on the internet the problem is.

Somehow I dont think the solution to server problems is getting money from us... we dont have any!!
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

I always said Gamestats were useless and that Apolyton was better off rid of them.
